Patent number: 11544688Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a request from a user computing device associated with a user for one or more items from an in-vehicle vending apparatus during a ride. The method also includes sending information associated with the user to start a vending session using the in-vehicle vending apparatus. The method also includes receiving an indication that the user associated with the user computer device accessed the in-vehicle vending apparatus. The method also includes determining that the user associated with the user computing device is the only user associated with the ride, determining that the user associated with the user computing device is one of a plurality of users associated with the ride, or determining that the user associated with the user computing device is associated with the in-vehicle vending apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2020Date of Patent: January 3, 2023Assignee: Lyft, Inc.Inventors: Trent Baren, Luke George Greenwood, Sachin Agarwal, David Harry Garcia, Ethan Duncan Eyler, Tzu-San Hung, Martin Conte MacDonnell

Publication number: 20220203886Abstract: An illuminated communication unit for a vehicle is provided. The communication unit may include an enclosure carrying components within a cavity that include a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) and a heat sink. The PCBA may include a position sensor in communication with the vehicle and configured to detect a position of the vehicle, and a plurality of light emitting elements disposed adjacent to the position sensor and configured to generate a light output. The heat sink may be configured to dissipate heat caused by the plurality of light emitting elements generating the light output. The communication unit may include a diffuser lens that includes a lens surface having an emblem disposed thereon, the diffuser lens being configured to receive the light output generated by the plurality of light emitting elements and diffusely illuminate the emblem. The lens surface may be configured to widely disperse the light output.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2020Publication date: June 30, 2022Inventors: Alfred Charles Jones, II, Azhar Kamal Meyer, Marco Antonio Marroquin, Richard Wimmer, Ethan Duncan Eyler, John Sungchun Chiu, Lakshmaiah Brahmasani

Patent number: 10991159Abstract: The present disclosure is directed toward systems and methods for a virtual reality transportation system. In particular, the systems and methods described herein present a virtual reality experience including a virtual environment for display to a passenger including virtual inertial interactions that correspond to real-world inertial forces that a passenger experiences while riding in a vehicle. Additionally, the systems and methods described herein analyze historical sensory data to predict inertial forces that the passenger will experience while riding in the vehicle. The systems and methods also generate a virtual sensory view for display to a passenger to represent what an autonomous transportation vehicle sees by way of a sensor suite used for navigation.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2020Date of Patent: April 27, 2021Assignee: LYFT, INC.Inventors: Ethan Duncan Eyler, Martin Conte MacDonell, Taggart Matthiesen, Jesse Jones McMillin, Robert Earl Rasmusson, Jr., Mark David Teater

Patent number: 10853862Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes initiating a vending session using an in-vehicle vending apparatus to provide a user access to one or more items, the vending session being initiated by determining that the user is associated with a ride. The method also includes determining that the vending session has ended, which may be determined by determining that the in-vehicle vending apparatus is closed, and determining the one or more items that were taken by the user. The method also includes identifying one or more items taken from the in-vehicle vending apparatus during the vending session based on sensor data from the in-vehicle apparatus. The method also includes sending a confirmation of the one or more items taken to the user.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2017Date of Patent: December 1, 2020Assignee: Lyft, Inc.Inventors: Trent Baren, Luke George Greenwood, Sachin Agarwal, David Harry Garcia, Ethan Duncan Eyler, Tzu-San Hung, Martin Conte MacDonnell
