Abstract: An adhesive composition for adhering an artificial nail to the nail comprising 2-methoxyisopropyl .alpha.-cyanoacrylate, and a copolymer of a specified alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate and a specified fluorinated alkyl acrylate or fluorinated alkyl methacrylate. The composition is very low in exothermic temperature and has satisfactory properties to permit the artificial nail to be peeled off easily within a short period of time.

Abstract: An .alpha.-cyanoacrylate adhesive composition including as the main components thereof:(A) an .alpha.-cyanoacrylate prepared by the process having the steps of thermally depolymerizing a condensation product obtained from a cyanoacetic acid ester, and formaldehyde or a polymer thereof using as a catalyst a polymerizable imine represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and are each CH.sub.3 or H to obtain a crude monomer, and rectifying the crude monomer,(B) a fine particulate silica having an absorbed and adsorbed water content of 0.08 to 1.30 wt % and 2.7 to 5.2 silanol groups/100 .ANG..sup.2 on the surface thereof, and(C) an acid-treated (poly)-alkylene glycol.

Abstract: A process for preparing an .alpha.-cyanoacrylate compound characterized by the steps of thermally depolymerizing a condensation product obtained from a cyanoacetic acid ester, and formaldehyde or a polymer thereof using as a catalyst a polymerizable imine represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and are each CH.sub.3 or H to obtain a crude monomer, and rectifying the crude monomer and an adhesive composition comprising as its main component an .alpha.-cyanoacrylate compound prepared by the above process.

Abstract: An adhesive composition characterized in that the composition is prepared by subjecting finely divided hydrophobic silica surface-treated with hexamethyldisilazane to a heat treatment under a reduced pressure, subsequently treating the silica with an acid gas, and admixing the resulting silica with an .alpha.-cyanoacrylate.
