  • Patent number: 7419261
Abstract: A method for modifying the shape of a spheric or toric non-corrective lens blank such that astigmatic and peripheral defects are reduced. The outer convex and inner concave sides of the lens are initially designed according to the Gullstrand Formula. Thereafter, a visual axis of the lens is defined relative to a reference axis of the lens blank. In the preferred toric lens, the visual axis of the lens is offset from the reference axis. Once the visual axis is defined, the inner concave surface of the lens is modified so as to improve optical quality in a visual center surrounding the visual axis.

  • Patent number: 6554421
Abstract: A nonconnecting lens blank and method provide an integrated optical function insert and allow for ease in trimming by the ability to visually orient the geometric alignment of the optical function insert. The nonconnecting lens blank has an inner concave face (2c) and an outer convex face (2b) delimited by a peripheral border (2a). A matrix (4) of transparent material transmits light from the outer face towards the inner face. An insert (6) integrating the optical function is placed in one of the faces of the matrix. The matrix may include a housing (5) in which the insert (6) is fitted. The insert (6) preferably has two truncated concentric circular edges (5a1, 5a2) separated by two straight parallel edges (5a3, 5a4). The optical function may be polarization with the plane of polarization aligned relative to the straight edges.

  • Patent number: 6540352
Abstract: This lens is mounted in a frame having two earpieces and composed of two spherical surfaces (6, 8) and an optical center. In the standard wearing position in which a horizontal line connects the center of the pupil of the eye to an area of the ear on which an earpiece of the frame rests, the optical axis defined by the line passing through the two centers of the spherical surfaces makes an angle of at least 10° with a horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 6138286
Abstract: A goggle has a replaceable plastic lens mounted in a flexible frame containing several air vents for passing external air through the goggle interior. The lens is formed of thermoplastic materials to provide spherical and cylindrical versions of the lens. The thermoplastic resins incorporate dyes which tint the lens to create transmission curves having peaks and valleys which approximate or enhance certain response characteristics of the retina of the human eye. Inlet air vents are covered by porous foam located in an upper air channel to disperse downwardly the external air into the interior space behind the lens. Outlet vents located in the bottom of the frame are covered with a porous foam to exit air from the interior space.

  • Patent number: 5805263
Abstract: The present invention concerns an optically non correcting lens blank for the manufacture of an optically non correcting lens, having a high curvature, corresponding to an average radius of curvature at most equal to about 90 mm, said lens blank comprising a transparent blade, and having on the one hand, a geometrical axis, passing through said blade and defining a geometrical center, and on the other hand, an optical axis defining an optical center, the blade, when seen in elevation, further having a generally non circular contour, the optical axis and geometrical axis, and thus the optical and geometrical centers, being physically separated by a predetermined distance from each other and angularly displaced, the blade further comprising stacking correction means, which are integrated with or affixed to the contour of the blank.
