  • Patent number: 4865530
Abstract: A scroll-type positive displacement apparatus which can be used as a vacuum pump is disclosed. A pair of interfitting scrolls are housed in a first container which communicates with a vacuum chamber to be evacuated by the pump. The scrolls are rotated in synchrony about parallel, nonaligned axis by a drive motor. The scrolls define a plurality of spiral compression chambers which change in size when the scrolls are rotated, compressing a gas contained in the compression chambers. The shaft of one of the scrolls has a discharge port formed therein which communicates between the centermost compression chamber and the inside of a second container which adjoins the first container. The second container is partially filled with lubricating oil and communicates with the atmosphere. The discharge port is equipped with a check valve which permits compressed gas to enter the second container from the scrolls but prevents gas from flowing in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4735559
Abstract: An upper housing for rotatably supporting a driving scroll in a sealing container is provided with an annular chamber to be maintained at the atmospheric pressure. The annular chamber is communicated with a compression chamber formed between the driving and driven scrolls through a discharge conduit which is formed in the driving shaft of the driving scroll. The annular chamber is communicated with the inside of the container through a throttling path. An oil stored in the lower part of the container is induced with the compression chamber during the revolution of the both scrolls to be introduced into the annular chamber. Owing to the throttling path, the oil is stored in the annular chamber to separate the inside of the container and the annular chamber kept at the atmospheric pressure.

  • Patent number: 4730998
Abstract: A scroll-type apparatus having a main journal bearing which journals the drive shaft of the apparatus and is capable of pivoting by small angles with two degrees of freedom. The main journal bearing comprises three or more arcuate pads whose inner surfaces journal the drive shaft and which are pivotably supported by a stationary main bearing housing. In a preferred embodiment, each of the pads has a spherical protrusion and two rotation-preventing pins secured to its back surface. The protrusions contact the inner surface of the main bearing housing and pivotably support the pads, while the rotation-preventing pins are inserted into grooves formed on the inner surface of the main bearing housing.

  • Patent number: 4585402
Abstract: A scroll-type fluid machine, preferably, a scroll-type compressor, having a small size and improved sealing between scroll members. An orbiting scroll is interleaved with a stationary scroll. A crank mechanism is provided for causing the orbiting scroll to undergo an orbiting motion. The crank mechanism includes a crankshaft and an eccentric ring rotated in an eccentric pattern by the crankshaft. Orbital movement of the orbiting scroll is transmitted from the eccentric ring to a shaft of the orbiting scroll. The distance between the center of rotation of the crankshaft and the center of the orbiting scroll shaft is made substantially equal to the radius of orbit when the center of rotation of the crankshaft, the center of the orbiting scroll shaft, and the center of rotation of the eccentric ring are arranged along a straight line in the stated order.

  • Patent number: 4515539
Abstract: A scroll-type hydraulic machine, particularly, a compressor, in which thrust flows acting on a pair of orbiting scrolls cancel one another, thereby improving the reliability of the machine. The hydraulic machine includes first and second fluid volume changing mechanisms, each of which has a stationary scroll and an orbiting scroll assembled together such that fluid introduced between the wraps of the two scrolls is reduced in volume and discharged. A crank mechanism including a crankshaft having an eccentric through-hole extending therethrough has a first crank portion at one end for rotatably supporting a shaft of the orbiting scroll of the first fluid volume changing mechanism and a second crank portion at the other end thereof rotatably supporting the orbiting scroll of the second fluid volume changing mechanism. A thrust-cancelling shaft is disposed in the eccentric through-hole supporting at the opposed ends thereof the orbiting scrolls of the first and second fluid volume changing mechanisms.
