The movable member moves to a predetermined position after the substrate is supported by the movable member and before the substrate is taken out from the film forming chamber by the substrate conveying mechanism.

Three unit cells are adjacently disposed in a same plane to form a pixel, and combinations of colors of the two kinds of translucent colored electrophoretic particles in each of the three unit cells forming the pixel are respectively one of the three primary colors and a color which provides black by subtractive mixture with one of the three primary colors.

A voltage can be independently applied to each control electrode, a transparent insulation liquid is filled in the space formed by the both substrates and the barrier wall, and colored and charged particles are dispersed in the transparent insulation liquid.
