Patent number: 5165259Abstract: A circular knitting machine in which the inactivation or activation of a vertical jack below each needle is determined by a flexible fork located radially of the cylinder within a ring structure completely surrounding the machine cylinder and rigid therewith. A number of forks and radial grooves equal to the number of needles is provided, said forks being able to flex within said grooves and being selected by a magnetic force.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1990Date of Patent: November 24, 1992Assignee: Savio S.p.A.Inventors: Ettore Negri, Paolo Brandani, Paolo Salucci

Patent number: 5095721Abstract: A device for selecting needles in a circular knitting machine by means of rocker levers. The rocker levers are pivoted on central horizontal fixed pivots having an end in the form of a one-piece metal structure. The metal structure comprises a sleeve which engages the horizontal pivot. The pivot engages along a gradual profile with butts of jacks. The butts of the jacks are inactivated and their opposite end engages with a mobile rocker arm of an electromagnetic actuator. The rocker arm is magnetizable by an electric current which is fed to a fixed electrical winding surrounding the arm. Depending on the direction of the current flowing through the winding, the rocker arm positions itself in one of two positions. The position is determined by fixed permanent magnets of opposite sign which are positioned on opposite sides of the mobile end of the magnetizable rocker arm.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1990Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Assignee: Savio S.p.A.Inventor: Ettore Negri

Patent number: 5016449Abstract: This invention is directed to an improved method for producing quality hosiery in circular knitting machines by changing the stitch length. The density of the knitted hose is regulated by measuring the axial advancement of a tensioning device. This produces hose portion by portion and consequently varies the level difference between the sinker knock-down plane and the minimum level reached by the active needles.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1990Date of Patent: May 21, 1991Assignee: Savio, S.p.A.Inventor: Ettore Negri

Patent number: 4606202Abstract: Feeder-stripper device for circular knitting machines, whereby the device can be anchored substantially at a tangent to the needle cylinders and comprises a carrying structure consisting of a plurality of firm supporting surfaces to support the yarn carriers, and whereby the firm supporting surfaces are mutually sloped fan-wise in both a substantially radial direction and a substantially tangential direction in relation to the needle cylinders, whereby the yarn carriers are fitted in a relatively movable manner in relation to the firm surfaces so as to enable their own ends to follow a substantially continuous and curved path during their movement between their working position and their position of rest, and whereby each yarn carrier cooperates with a four-bar positioning and supporting linkage provided with only one degree of freedom and anchored revolvably to their respective firm supporting surface, and whereby suitable actuators rotate the respective linkage, on each of which there act bias elements coopType: GrantFiled: January 14, 1985Date of Patent: August 19, 1986Assignee: Officine Savio S.p.A.Inventors: Piero Del Bene, Ettore Negri

Patent number: 4541253Abstract: Procedure for knitting hose with a toe and heel in a circular knitting machine having more than one feed and two needle cylinders. All needles are brought to an upper path during knitting of the toe and heel with alternating motion, and at every oscillation of the cylinder those needles alone which have been selected to knit the course relative to the oscillation are brought back to work from the upper path towards a lower working path. The selection of needles is brought about by cooperation between fixed radial cams situated so as to correspond with the main feed and appropriate selection actuators. The selection for jacquard designs takes place upwardly from the lower path to the upper path by cooperation between appropriate selection actuators and movable radial cams located so as to correspond with each feed. The upper path serves to exclude the needles of the lower cylinder from work and also to protect the upper cylinder needles, the lower path being the path for jacquard designs.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1982Date of Patent: September 17, 1985Assignee: Officine Savio SpaInventors: Luciano Luchi, Ettore Negri

Patent number: 3996768Abstract: In the production of tights on a circular knitting machine, the needle cylinder is operated with continuous motion to form a first tubular leg portion. The needles along a first arc are then excluded, and a trapezoidal fabric flap is knitted along a second arc, explementary to the first arc, using oscillating motion of the needle cylinder, needles being progressively excluded along third and fourth arcs, at each end of the second arc whereby to form inclined sides of the flap. Knitting of the flap is completed along a fifth arc defined between the ends of the third and fourth arcs. A second trapezoidal fabric flap is knitted along the fifth arc, needles being progressively included along the third and fourth arcs. The second flap is connected to the first flap during knitting and the two flaps form the pants portion of the tights. After completion of the second flap, a second tubular leg portion is formed using continuous motion of the needle cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1975Date of Patent: December 14, 1976Assignee: Macchine Tessili Circolari Matec S.p.A.Inventors: Franco Gariboldi, Ettore Negri

Patent number: 3987650Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the forming of a continuous tubular one-piece panty hose on a circular knitting machine wherein the waist opening extends transversey of the direction of knitting and the marginal edges of the waist opening are at least partly finished with a tubular welt construction.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1974Date of Patent: October 26, 1976Assignee: Billi, S.p.A.Inventor: Ettore Negri

Patent number: 3956909Abstract: The body garment is of seamless knit and unitary construction and may comprise a panty or the body portion of tights or panty hose of the one-piece type. The body garment comprises a plurality of panels formed by reciprocal knitting which enables variations to be made in the size of different portions of the body garment according to the walewise and coursewise dimensions of the several panels. These panels comprise two elongated waist panels generally formed with tapered edges and separated by a crotch panel running generally perpendicular thereto. The last complete course on the leg portion of the body garment is parallelly interknitted with the adjacent courses on both the crotch and waist panel sections.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1974Date of Patent: May 18, 1976Assignee: Billi S.p.A.Inventor: Ettore Negri

Patent number: 3937040Abstract: A process for knitting the body portion of a panty or panty hose of one piece construction on a circular knitting machine which comprises knitting a first leg portion by tubular knitting, supporting the tubular knit portion on all the needles while inactivating the needles along a first arc and knitting by reciprocal motion on a second arc of needles to form a first waist portion, casting off the fabric from said second arc of needles, activating the needles along said first arc of needles and knitting by reciprocatory motion to form a crotch panel, inactivating said first arc of needles while supporting the crotch panel thereon, knitting a second waist panel on said second arc of needles, and then knitting on all the needles in a circular motion to form the remainder of the body portion. The dimensions of the waist panels and the dimension of the crotch panel may be changed as desired by varying the number of wales and courses in each panel according to the desired size of the completed garment.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1974Date of Patent: February 10, 1976Assignee: Billi S.p.A.Inventor: Ettore Negri
