  • Patent number: 6148947
Abstract: To provide a particularly simple and cost effective design of a power-assisted steering unit for motor vehicles for supplying a servo-cylinder (3) with a hydraulic fluid as a function of the travelling speed and the steering rate, comprising a steering valve (1) by means of which the left and right chambers (16, 17) of the servo-cylinder (3) can be pressurized with hydraulic fluid via a pump (2) when there is a steering movement, and a bypass valve (10) connected in parallel to the servo-cylinder (3), by means of which a portion of the hydraulic fluid for pressurizing the servo-cylinder (3) that is directed past the servo-cylinder (3) is controlled, a throttling unit (26) is connected in series with the bypass valve (10). The hydraulic fluid inflow or return flow of the servo-cylinder (3) flows through this throttling unit (26) depending on the steering direction.

  • Patent number: 5868216
Abstract: For a hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering assembly for which a working piston is guided in a hydraulic cylinder which features an end limit stop by which, in an end position of the working piston, a path for the pressure agent supplied to the working piston by drill holes for the pressure agent is formed from the working space under pressure to a space of less pressure, in order to improve the hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering assembly such that it is simple to manufacture at limited cost, a rack-and-pinion steering assembly is improved by having, in the region of each pressure supply drill hole, at least one drill hole which can be executed and sealed from the housing exterior and which can be connected by means of a connecting line to the respective pressure supply.

  • Patent number: 5862879
Abstract: The invention discloses a method for controlling the hydraulic pressure in a power steering device that serves for supplying compressed oil to the left and the right chamber of a power steering cylinder via a rotary slide valve with the aid of a pump, wherein a reaction piston arranged on the input shaft in axially movable and rotationally rigid fashion and connected to the control sleeve of the rotary slide valve via an elastic rotary coupling is inserted between the input shaft and the control sleeve of the rotary slide valve, and wherein a hydraulic reaction device controlled by a control unit with dependence on speed and which serves to control the reaction pressure is arranged in a return line for the hydraulic medium which leads away from the reaction piston. According to the invention, the changes in the hydraulic pressure are determined and used as control parameters for the hydraulic reaction device that is controlled with dependence on speed in addition to the parameter speed.

  • Patent number: 5797309
Abstract: In order to economize the manufacture and assembly as well as reduce the expenditure of components and functionally improve a steering valve for supplying an actuator with hydraulic pressure, comprising an input shaft 2, an output shaft 3, a torsion rod 4 that is connected to one end to the input shaft 2 and with the other end to the output shaft 3, a valve sleeve 5 that surrounds the input shaft and a reaction piston 8 that may be axially moved relative to the input shaft 2, but is arranged such that it is unable to rotate and is connected to the valve sleeve 5 via an elastic rotary driver, a torsion-proof, axially elastic element 13 is arranged in the steering valve 1, with one end of said element being fastened on the input shaft 2 and its other end being fastened on the reaction piston 8.

  • Patent number: 5680804
Abstract: A steering valve (1) for supplying an actuator with hydraulic pressure, consists of an input shaft (2), an output shaft (3), a torque rod (4), connected at one end to the input shaft (2) and at the other end to the output shaft (3), and a valve sleeve (5) surrounding the input shaft (2). A torsionally resistant, axially elastic element (9) is contained within the steering valve (1), connected at one end to the input shaft (2) and at the other end to a catch device (10). The catch device (10) ensures no relative displacement between the valve sleeve (5) and the input shaft (2); prior to a predetermined degree of torque, and converts the torque acting upon the input shaft (2) to axial forces acting upon the elastic element (9) until a release position is reached. The elastic element (9) is mounted on the input shaft (2) by means of a bearing sleeve (11), which is fixed in an axial position on the input shaft (2).

  • Patent number: 5582091
Abstract: The invention pertains to a steering booster for delivering compressed oil to the left and right chambers (6,7) of a servo cylinder (3) via a rotary slide valve (9) with a pump (10), whereby a reaction piston (18) is arranged between an input shaft (14) and a control sleeve (15) of the rotary slide valve (9). In order to create a simply constructed hydraulic reaction device for this steering booster, the invention suggests that an electrohydraulic transformer (30) for controlling a hydraulic reaction moment in dependence on certain parameters be arranged in a line (31) between the pump (10) and the rear side of the reaction piston (18).

  • Patent number: 5339917
Abstract: A power steering device supplies hydraulic oil to the left and right chambers (6,7) of a servo cylinder (3) by means of a pump (10) via a rotary slide valve (9), whereby a reaction piston (18) that is stressed by a pressure spring (19) is arranged between an input shaft (14) and a control sleeve (15) of the rotary slide valve (9). In order to create a simply constructed hydraulic reaction system for this power steering device, it is suggested that a ratio pressure control valve (VDRV) (30) to reduce the system pressure (P) to a lower reaction pressure (P2) and a variable stop (29) to control the hydraulic retroactive moment as a function of the speed are arranged in a line (31) between the pump (10) and the rear side of the reaction piston (18) that is stressed by the pressure spring (19). The invention furthermore suggests that a variable stop (34) to control the return pressure (PR) as a function of the speed is arranged in a line (PR) between the front side of the reaction piston (18) and a tank (27).
