  • Patent number: 5918928
Abstract: A folding top for vehicles has a tension bow which is connected with the rearward lower edge of the folding top covering. In the closed position of the folding top, the covering is supported by at least one sealing body on the bottom side of an adjoining vehicle body part. So that damage to the vehicle body part as a result of an excessive contact pressure of the tension bow is avoided and a defined contact pressure of the sealing body can be achieved, the tension bow is connected with a stationary rollover bar by way of at least one adjustable relief device.

  • Patent number: 5758923
Abstract: A folding top for a vehicle, particularly a passenger car, can be displaced, via a driving device, automatically from a closed position spanning a passenger compartment into a rear-side deposited position in which it is received in a folding top compartment provided with a folding top compartment lid. The driving device has at least one driving element interacting with the folding top structure of the folding top. The driving element applied to the folding top structure comprises a first crank mechanism which is in an operative connection with a gearing unit which is driven by an electric motor and is stationary on the body side, and is coupled with the folding top compartment lid by way of a mechanical forced control. The first crank mechanism has a first crank arm and a first connecting rod connected with the free end of the first crank arm and a control arm of the folding top structure.

  • Patent number: 5037146
Abstract: A lock for a detachable vehicle body part, particularly a roof of a motor vehicle, includes a fixed receiving device and a movable actuating member. The actuating member, which is pivoted at a pin, has a circular plate with a circle segment-type flattening and is adjustable from a closed position to an open position and vice versa. The adjustments are accomplished by moving the actuating member along a circular path segment. In the closed position, the actuating member reaches over the receiving device.

  • Patent number: 4958882
Abstract: So that when a folding top is closed, a good sealing is achieved with respect to an adjacent lateral viewing window and the folding top can be stored without any problems in a rear side accommodating space of an aerodynamically optimized vehicle body, a rear edge of the viewing window, which extends approximately upright, interacts, in a sealing manner, with a pillar section which is pivotally connected with the rear folding top frame. The pillar section, by means of a connecting member, is connected to a control lever. During the swivelling-back of the folding top, a free end of the pillar section carries out a forced movement toward the inside.

  • Patent number: 4915443
Abstract: A transformable passenger motor vehicle with lateral doors and a passenger space is provided with a one-piece form-rigid covering that extends approximately at the height of the belt line of the open body and with the exception of a longitudinal cut-out for the driver closes the entire passenger space, whereby at least a forward and lateral partial area of the cut-out is surrounded by a window shield having a slight height. In order that the covering exhibits a good functioning combined with a simple construction and permits a comfortable egress from and ingress into the passenger space, the covering made of plastic material is pivotally supported at the body under interposition of two four-jointed hinges. For fixing the covering in its closed position, disengageable latching mechanisms interacting with windshield wiper mounting shafts are provided between the covering and the body.

  • Patent number: 4840419
Abstract: A tensioning arrangement for a top cover of a motor vehicle includes a tensioning device arranged in loop-shaped longitudinal edges of the top cover which, on the one hand, is connected with a forward, transversely extending frame part and on the other with a pivotal support of the foldable top. In order to be able to compensate relatively great length changes of the top cover conditioned on weather and/or manufacture, the tensioning device of the tensioning arrangement cooperates at its one end with a tensioning spring and at its other end with a spring-loaded pivot lever, whereby a clamping bolt arranged at the pivot lever is supported in a closing position of the foldable top at a free end of a lateral longitudinal girder of the foldable top and tensions the tension spring by way of the tensioning device.

  • Patent number: 4838601
Abstract: A folding top for a passenger car comprises a folding top linkage having a main bow disposed at the body, lateral side members and a toggle joint system. Each side member is pivoted at the main bow via a roof frame control arm and an angle lever. So that the folding top, in the driving operation, in its folded-back open position, is securely held open, a releasable arresting device is provided for fixing the folding top.

  • Patent number: 4491361
Abstract: An installation for fastening a lower edge area of a top cover at a rear frame of a motor vehicle includes a fastening arrangement and a cover covering the fastening arrangement. The arrangement provides a structural simplification and an improved seal between the top cover and the rear frame. The installation includes a rail angularly shaped in cross section, whose first leg facing the passenger space serves as cover member and for fastening at the rear frame, while the second leg that extends approximately parallelly to the lower edge area of the top cover, is designed and constructed for the retention of the lower edge area and of a sealing member provided between the rail and the rear frame.
