  • Patent number: 5170869
Abstract: A toothed wheel, driveably connected to an output element of the transmission, has a spring loaded parking pawl engaged between the teeth of the wheel. The pawl carries a roller contacted in top-dead-center position by a surface of a locking cam biased by a spring into contact with the roller. The locking cam is connected to a gear selector position lever positively in one rotary direction and non-positively in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4949588
Abstract: An annular friction gear includes a driving shaft, a driving disc connected to the driving shaft, a driven shaft, a driven disc connected to the driven shaft, the shafts discs being coaxially mounted rotatably. An annular friction element, radially displaceable mechanically or hydraulically, between the discs rests in frictional contact at one contact point on the driving disc and at a diametrically opposite contact point on the driven disc. The friction element is in the form of a ball bearing disposed obliquely with respect to the shaft axis so that its outer race rests at one contact point on the driving disc and at the contact point on the driven disc. The displacement device engages on the inner race of the ball bearing.

  • Patent number: 4760757
Abstract: An infinitely variable transmission for a motor vehicle comprising a belt and sheave assembly, a two speed planetary gear unit between the vehicle engine and the input sheave of the sheave assembly, a fluid pressure supply pump on the side of said input sheave remote from said planetary gear unit, a pump drive shaft extending from the pump through the input sleeve to the input carrier of said planetary gear unit, a direct drive pressure operated clutch for said planetary gear unit located between said planetary gear unit and said input sheave, and passages in the planetary carrier of said planetary gear unit for distributing fluid pressure from a supply passage in said drive shaft to the direct drive clutch.

  • Patent number: 4649773
Abstract: In a transmission unit for motor vehicles with a continuously variable traction member transmission and forward-reverse planetary gearing associated therewith, the engine crankshaft being disposed approximately in the longitudinal median plane of the vehicle and directly connected or is connected by way of a hydrokinetic torque converter (3) to the input member (8) of the forward-reverse planetary gearing (7) and the output member thereof being disposed at the driving end and connected by first fixed gearing 15 and 16 to a primary shaft (18) which is connected by way of the traction member (21) to a secondary shaft (24) disposed laterally at approximately the same level as the primary shaft, the secondary shaft (24) being connected by way of second fixed gearing 26 and 27 to the driven shaft (28) which is disposed approximately in the longitudinal median plane of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4543852
Abstract: A transmission mechanism in particular for automobiles with a front wheel drive comprises a planetary forward-reverse gear set and a continuously variable pulley drive that is drivingly connected to a differential gearing. A forward friction disk clutch provided for obtaining a forward driving direction of the transmission mechanism may be selectively operated by a servo piston that is fixedly connected in an axially stationary manner to the adjusting piston of a hydraulic adjusting means provided for the selective adjustment of the movable sheave of a primary pulley of said pulley drive whereby the mutual arrangement is chosen in such a manner that the adjusting cylinder being fixedly connected to this movable sheave at least partly surrounds the servo piston. By this particular arrangement the axial dimension of the entire transmission mechanism may be reduced without the requirement of a separate starting clutch for the entire clutch assembly.

  • Patent number: 4528870
Abstract: The invention relates to a transmission for vehicles, in particular for automobiles with front wheel drive, which have a driving motor mounted transverse to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, whose drive shaft drives the primary shaft of an infinitely variable belt drive having a secondary shaft driven in the same direction of rotation by means of a drive belt and mounted coaxially with the drive pinion of a differential gear provided with output shafts. A reversing and reduction gearing, designed as a planetary gearset, is mounted coaxially with the secondary shaft of the belt drive and connected through its input member to the secondary shaft and through its output member to the drive pinion of the differential gearing, while its reactive section is fixed to the casing. As a result, a very compact transmission unit is achieved, having in forward drive position an output rotation in the same direction as the input rotation.

  • Patent number: 4502352
Abstract: A gear unit for vehicles comprising an input shaft 3 driven by the driving shaft 1 of a drive motor by means of a start-up clutch unit 2, an input shaft extending coaxially through a primary shaft 4 of a continuously variable gear unit 5, the traction member 6 driving a secondary shaft 7 arranged parallel to the primary shaft; an epicyclic gear unit 8, which drives the primary shaft 4 in different rotational directions by means of a forward and reverse clutch unit being disposed on the input shaft 3, the secondary shaft 7 driving by means of a reduction gear unit 10 an output shaft 11, which is in driving connection with a differential gear unit 12, the start-up clutch unit is a hydraulically controlled one-disk-wet clutch which has a housing 13, 14 and 15 and forms the flywheel for a driving internal-combustion engine and which receives a starter ring 23 and drives a hydraulic fluid pump 28 arranged on a partition wall 29 of the gear housing.

  • Patent number: 4414862
Abstract: A planetary gear arrangement has mutually meshing first and second planetary pinion sets journalled on a carrier that is fixed to the input shaft. The first planet pinion set meshes also with a sun gear fixed to the output shaft; the second planet pinion set meshes with a ring gear. A slidable clutch can driveably connect the ring gear to the carrier for reverse drive operation and a cone clutch can fix the ring gear against rotation for forward drive operation.
