  • Publication number: 20180297827
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are disclosed of extracting devices and related methods. One example device for extracting an object from a material includes a frame attachable to the object to be extracted. An advancer is provided in the frame. An extraction rod is selectively movable through the frame and advancer to position the extraction rod against a surface alongside an exposed portion of the object. A movable handle is pivotally attached to the frame and operable to move the advancer against the extraction rod positioned against the surface, to move the frame along the extraction rod, and the object to which the frame is attached, away from the material.

  • Patent number: 7324615
Abstract: A time signal receiver and decoder receives, detects and stores time information from time signals, e.g., WWV, WWVH, WWVB (USA), JJY (Japan), MSF (UK) and the like. The time information may be used for a self setting clock, and the clock may be used as a reference in time sensitive applications, devices and systems. The time signal receiver may use a high-Q state variable bandpass filter or an anti-notch filter circuit for selectivity at the time signal frequency of interest. The decoder is coupled to the time signal receiver, decodes the time information in the received time signal and may store the decoded time information.

  • Publication number: 20080003295
Abstract: Bioadhesive nanoparticulate compositions, comprising active agent particles and one or more cationic surface stabilizers, are described. The cationic surface stabilizers prevent aggregation of the nanoparticles and increase bioadhesion of the nanoparticles to biological substrates, such as an insect, teeth, bone, nails, chitin, feathers, scales, mucous, skin, hair, plant tissue, etc. The particles may consist of pharmacologically active compounds (e.g., drug compounds for human or veterinary use), agricultural chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and the like), cosmetic agents, consumer products (coloring agents, flavors, or fragrances), or other materials which function by interacting with biological substrates. In addition, the invention relates to methods of preparing and using such bioadhesive nanoparticulate compositions.

  • Publication number: 20060104909
Abstract: An abuse-resistant controlled release pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically effective amount of discrete particles of an active capable of abuse, wherein surfaces of said particles are wetted with a water insoluble coating material, and preferably wherein said composition comprises a matrix, in which said particles are distributed, and which renders the abuse-capable compound within the matrix difficult to separate from the matrix; and a method for the preparation of a controlled release pharmaceutical composition having a reduced potential for abuse, comprising applying a pressure force to a mixture comprising a water insoluble material, and particles of a pharmaceutically active compound capable of inducing in a subject a reaction that is physiologically or psychologically detrimental if administered in an immediate release dosage form, thereby resulting in surface coated particles, and incorporating said surface coated particles into a pharmaceutical composition

  • Publication number: 20050064010
Abstract: Diseases associated with the tissues in the posterior segment of the eye can be effectively treated by administering therapeutic agents transsclerally to those tissues. Compositions, devices, and methods for delivering therapeutic agents so that they cross the sclera and reach these tissues include injecting solutions or suspensions adjacent to or within the sclera and implanting solid structures containing the therapeutic agent adjacent to or within the sclera. These methods may be used for administering rapamycin or related compounds to treat choroidal neovascularization associated with age-related macular degeneration.

  • Patent number: 5774074
Abstract: A position encoder system is provided, such system including a code wheel, a pair of sensors, a counter, and a processor capable of identifying the correlation between separately identified markings of the code wheel. The identified correlation is indicative of code wheel accuracy, and thus is used to correct error in any angular position determined using the code wheel.

  • Patent number: 4707692
Abstract: A resonant mode energy recovery circuit is disclosed for supplying drive pulses to an electroluminescent (EL) display arranged as a matrix of pixels addressed by a plurality of column and row electrodes. An external inductor is used to alternately store and supply energy from the column electrodes of the EL display which has an impedance equivalent to an array of capacitors and resistors. Switching transistors and diodes are used to start and stop the resonant current flow at 1/4 wavelength intervals of the resonant frequency of the resonant tank formed by the external inductor and the array capacitors coupled to the column electrodes in order to form the pulses required to address the columns of the matrix. Switched current sources are used to start and stop nonresonant current flow to form the refresh and write pulses used to form the pulses required to address the rows of the matrix.

  • Patent number: 4074814
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for controlling the movement of a surface traversing apparatus across a member which has an ordered array of openings in it's surface. Move control routines are provided, each of which instruct the traversing apparatus to move incrementally over the surface of the member by disengaging, incrementally moving, and re-engaging one of two stepping arms. Each routine operates to advance the apparatus an increment in one of a number of directions. Some of the routines move the apparatus parallel to lines or rows of openings. Others move the apparatus diagonally. Each routine senses the relative positioning of the two stepping arms to establish the sequence of operations and returns the stepping arm to its former position if it is unable to complete a step.

  • Patent number: 3997915
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the frequency modulation and demodulation of a carrier signal by a modulating frequency signal, whereby essentially the same apparatus is used for both functions. During demodulation, the modulating device is switched into a closed loop having a relatively narrow bandwidth, thereby permitting the carrier generated by the modulator to be locked in phase with the signal to be demodulated. During modulation, the loop is opened up and the modulator is used in a normal fashion.
