  • Patent number: 6101304
Abstract: A fiber optic cable assembly with enhanced flexibility and reduced installation cost in contrast to conventional multiple duct systems. The fiber optic cable assembly comprises a central innerduct adapted to provide a pathway for installing conventional cable by pulling of the cable therethrough. A plurality of air blown fiber (ABF) tubes are positioned around the circumference of the central innerduct for installing air blown optical fiber bundles therethrough, and a plurality of strength elements are provided around the circumference of the central innerduct and interposed among the plurality of air blown fiber (ABF) tubes. A layer of water-blocking material is provided between an outer jacket and the air blown fiber (ABF) tubes and strength members.

  • Patent number: 5563975
Abstract: A flame-retardant optical fiber cable tubing bundle which can be vertically mounted in the shaft of a building comprised of a plurality of tubes; a first thermoplastic layer surrounding the tubes; and, a tape wrapped spirally along the longitudinal axis of the first thermoplastic layer. A second thermoplastic layer surrounds the tape. A method for complying with the UL 1666 fire test procedure for a cable tubing bundle intended for vertical installation includes the steps of liquefying a cross-sectional area of a thermoplastic layer of the cable tubing bundle; forcing the flow of the liquified thermoplastic inwardly to the center of the cable tubing bundle; and, charring the liquified thermoplastic to form a cross-sectional area of solid material in the interior of the cable tubing bundle.

  • Patent number: 4825682
Abstract: An adjustable crimping tool (10) is provided having a pair of indexable discs (18, 32) each of which carry a plurality of concave die cavities (18A-18F, 32A-32F) spaced about and opening to outer periphery thereof which can be moved into registry (FIG. 1) to define a selected size/shape of crimping cavity (C).

  • Patent number: 4216802
Abstract: An improved elongate deformable tube for use in the conveyance of fluids and/or fluid transmission signals under pressure having a bore therethrough enclosed by a composite annular wall comprising a seamless, as welded, or welded and drawn inner tubular shaped layer made from a metallic material and an outer tubular shaped layer made from a polymeric material. The walls of both the inner and outer layers are substantially uniform in radial thickness around their circumferences with the radial wall thickness of the outer polymeric layer being 50% or more than the total radial thickness of the composite wall of the tube. The outer layer is preferably formed about the inner layer by means of an extrusion process.
