  • Patent number: 4067624
Abstract: A fluid brake control system is provided including a brake control pipe and a control valve comprising a quick action chamber and an emergency slide valve operable from a normal to a service brake position in response to service reduction in brake pipe pressure, the emergency slide valve having a fluid pressure differential operated abutment disposed between a first pressure chamber within a housing on one side of the abutment subject to pressure of the quick action chamber, and a second pressure chamber contained in a housing cover on the other side of the abutment connected by a passage to the brake pipe. The cover includes quick action control apparatus including a quick action poppet type valve operably connected to the abutment for actuation of the quick action valve by the abutment from a normally closed to an open position in response to the operation of the abutment in one direction to a service braking position. The quick action poppet type valve vents fluid from the brake pipe when it is opened.

  • Patent number: 3967864
Abstract: A fluid brake control system is disclosed having an improved emergency application and stability control device for use in association with a brake control pipe, emergency and auxiliary fluid reservoirs, a first quick action chamber, a brake cylinder, and emergency and service control valves. An improved emergency application and stability control valve is provided comprising a housing containing a differential abutment subject to actuation axially by differences in fluid pressures in respective brake pipe pressure and quick action control pressure chambers on opposite sides of the abutment. The control device has at least one ball poppet type valve on each side of the abutment that is spring biased toward a closed position and has an operating push rod longitudinally disposed between the associated valve and the abutment. The poppet valve on one side of the abutment is opened by movement of the abutment in one direction for permitting application of fluid from the emergency reservoir to the brake cylinder.

  • Patent number: 3966270
Abstract: A fluid brake control system is disclosed having a brake application and release control device for governing fluid pressure in a brake cylinder. The control device comprises a housing containing a differential abutment subject to actuation from a normal position by differences in pressure between respective brake pipe and reference fluid pressure chambers on opposite sides of the abutment. At least one poppet type valve is provided in the housing on each side of the abutment, that is spring biased in the direction of the abutment to a closed position, having an operating push rod axially disposed between the associated poppet valve and the abutment.

  • Patent number: 3966269
Abstract: A fluid brake control system is disclosed having an improved quick service and accelerated release control device having valves operable when rendered effective to locally reduce the brake pipe pressure to accelerate a brake application signal through a train and at other times to apply fluid to the brake pipe for accelerating the release of brakes of a train. The control device comprises a housing containing a fluid pressure differential operated abutment subject to actuation from a normal position by differences in pressure between respective brake pipe and reference fluid pressure chambers on opposite sides of the abutment. Two quick service valves of the ball poppet type are provided on one side of the abutment that are spring biased in the direction of the abutment against their valve seats to normally closed positions and have operating push rods longitudinally disposed between the associated ball poppet valves and one side of the abutment.

  • Patent number: 3966271
Abstract: A fluid brake control system is disclosed for having an improved brake cylinder release control device for use in association with a brake control pipe, a fluid reservoir, and a service valve. The control device has a housing containing a differential abutment subject to actuation from a normal position by differences in pressure between a release spring in a chamber on one side of the abutment and pressure selectively applied to the abutment in another chamber on the opposite side of the abutment. A plurality of poppet type valves operated by longitudinal push rods connected by a bridge are provided in the chamber on each side of the abutment, the bridge being actuated at a midpoint by the abutment.
