Publication number: 20070274716Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing local warning of a low battery condition from an optical network terminal to a device in a customer premises are disclosed. An example optical network terminal is coupled to a power supply having a battery. The power supply sends a data signal to the optical network terminal indicating a condition of the battery. The optical network terminal includes a data port to receive the data signal from the power supply. The optical network terminal has a computer data port. A controller is provided to read the data signal and send a warning signal of the battery condition via the computer port to a device in a customer premises serviced by the power supply.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2006Publication date: November 29, 2007Inventors: Goangshiuan Ying, Eugene Edmon, James Carlyle, Steve Aspell

Publication number: 20070121811Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for an opt-in voice session recording in a communication device. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communication device (200) having a transceiver (102) for communicating with a second communication device, an audio system (206) for exchanging audible signals with an end user of the communication device, and a controller (214) for managing operations of the transceiver and the audio system. The controller can be programmed to establish (304) a voice session with the second communication device, transmit (308) to the second communication device a request to record the voice session, receive (316) from the second communication device a grant to record the voice session, and record (320) the voice session in response to the grant. Additional embodiments are disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2005Publication date: May 31, 2007Applicant: SBC Knowledge Ventures LPInventors: Goangshiuan Ying, Eugene Edmon, Steve Aspell, Kent McCammon

Publication number: 20060239417Abstract: The present invention discusses a method and apparatus for selectively providing a power to an alarm system, such as the power source provided by a telephone company, to alarm equipment located at customer's premises in a Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) telephone network. This power source is commonly used to power the POTS lines in a Service Provider's network. Two signals, one relating to the optical connectivity of the network and one relating to the connectivity of virtual circuits, are monitored at the customer premises. A logical operation is performed so as to remove a power source if either of the two signals is lost.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2005Publication date: October 26, 2006Applicant: SBC Knowledge Ventures L.P.Inventors: Bryan Walker, Mark Dement, Eugene Edmon

Publication number: 20060165011Abstract: A method of managing data transmission is provided and includes measuring a first number of payload bits communicated over a bearer during a first time period. The first number of measured payload bits is divided by a length of the first time period to yield a short term average bit rate for the first time period. Also, a bit rate margin is added to the short term average bit rate for to yield a total bearer bit rate for the first time period. Further, a bearer bit rate can be selectively provisioned based on the total bearer bit rate for the first time period. The bearer bit rate can be provisioned based on whether the bearer is a fixed bearer or an adaptive bearer.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2005Publication date: July 27, 2006Inventors: Thomas Starr, Eugene Edmon
