  • Publication number: 20230399898
Abstract: A casing string is used within a predetermined annular clearance inside a surrounding casing. Tubulars have turn-down recessed to a smaller diameter than the tubular's outer diameter. Pin ends of the tubulars have pin thread and taper inward to an even smaller diameter at the pin noses of the pin ends. Couplings have an outer diameter to fit with the annular clearance requirement. The through-bore of the coupling has box thread sections tapering outward from a center of the through-bore to the coupling's ends. The pin threads of the pipe ends thread respectively to the box thread sections of the couplings, and the pin noses of the opposing pipe ends engage in contact in the center of the coupling with a contact pressure. Cross-sections of the pin ends are balanced to cross-sections of the coupling so the connection can provide a tension and pressure ratings, such as at least 70 percent, of the pipe body tension and pressure ratings.

  • Patent number: 8882066
Abstract: Various clamps for connecting one tubular member to another, methods of using and making such clamps are disclosed. In one aspect a clamp for coupling a first tubular member to a second tubular member is provided. The clamp includes a first clamp half and a second clamp half engageable with the first clamp half. The first and second clamp halves define a first through bore to accommodate the first tubular member and a second through bore to accommodate the second tubular member. A strap is adapted to circumscribe at least a portion of and bring into engagement the first and second clamp halves. The clamp is buoyant in water.

  • Publication number: 20080179884
Abstract: A modified API Buttress threaded casing connection is disclosed for use in drilling oil and gas wells in lieu of using conventional drill pipe. The coupling threads only are multiple tapered yet can be mated with standard API Buttress pin threads having a single taper. The coupling is also shortened to permit abutment of the mating pins at the center of the coupling and can be further enhanced with an integral, sacrificial wear sleeve on one end of the coupling.

  • Patent number: 6695357
Abstract: A connection for threaded pipes and other tubular sections including a gasket for interposition between a first and an opposing second interface surface of the connection. The gasket includes a retainer and a generally annular seal element received in a groove formed into at least one side of the retainer. Such retainer side further is formed as having one or more channels extending extend radially through the groove and the inner or outer perimeter of the retainer. Each such channel defines a vent for relieving hydrostatic fluid pressure as the gasket is compressed between the interface surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6550822
Abstract: An improved coupling for joining together tubular sections is disclosed. The coupling includes a water exclusion seal which is a pressure energized elastomeric seal positioned in a groove near each end of the coupling to form a radial seal between the unthreaded area at each end of the coupling and the unthreaded cylindrical area adjacent each end of the tubular section. A thread compound relief groove adjacent each seal groove has sufficient volume for thread compound that is squeezed from the threads during or after make-up.
