Patent number: 12626470Abstract: Example implementations are directed to recapturing or realigning a room or scene in an artificial reality (XR) environment as a three dimensional (3D) space. To initially capture a room, a user manually annotates, using an XR system, one or more walls around the XR system. The XR system then aligns or localizes itself relative to the room. Once a room is captured and stored, and the user in the future enters the room again, the XR system may not be able to align itself in the room due to, for example, lighting conditions. Rather than require the user to manually recapture every wall captured during the initial room capture, the XR system can select one wall for recapture and, after receiving an annotation or marking of the one wall from the user, use the selection to realign the XR system relative to the room.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2023Date of Patent: May 12, 2026Assignee: Meta Platforms Technologies, LLCInventors: Shaik Shabnam Nizamudeen Basha, Lu Zhou, Eugene Lee, Kelly Rui-Ying Wang, Sony Nguyen, Hongbing Hu, Sean Finn

Publication number: 20250322614Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a dynamic boundary that triggers operating changes at an artificial reality system. Implementations of a dynamic boundary manager can enforce dynamic boundary criteria. A dynamic boundary that corresponds to the user can be automatically generated, such as when the artificial reality system operates in a certain operating condition. User movements can trigger dynamic boundary criteria and cause one or more of: expansion of the dynamic boundary; popping of the dynamic boundary; and/or reforming of the dynamic boundary. Responsive to these triggers, the dynamic boundary manager can also cause changes to operations at the artificial reality system, such as pause(s) to executing applications and/or changes to the artificial reality environment displayed to the user (e.g., transitions to and from a virtual reality environment, a pass-through visual, etc.).Type: ApplicationFiled: April 10, 2024Publication date: October 16, 2025Inventors: Eugene LEE, Ran ZHANG, James Alexander VALORI, Lu ZHOU
