  • Patent number: 5107762
Abstract: A dampening system for a lithographic printing press is provided in which the source of water is separate from the dampener rollers and all the dampener rollers have surfaces that possess both oleophilic and hydrophobic properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 3, 1989
Date of Patent: April 28, 1992
    Assignee: Rockwell International Corporation
Inventors: Thomas A. Fadner, Eugene M. Van Kanegan
  • Patent number: 5012736
Abstract: A sealing assembly for a liquid fountain such as is employed in flexographic printing and which is especially adapted for the split color printing wherein a foam layer separates the various ink compartments and is equipped with a liquid flow slot in the portion facing the liquid metering roll so as to provide limited axial flow of a slot liquid which is compatible with the ink in the various compartments.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 19, 1989
Date of Patent: May 7, 1991
    Assignee: Paper Converting Machine Company
Inventors: Eugene M. Van Kanegan, Wayne D. Klimek
  • Patent number: 4864925
Abstract: A system for the continuous and automatic supply of a mixture of ink and dampening fluid to a lithographic press. The ink and dampening fluid are mixed and then pumped to the press fountain. The fluid mixture is sampled downstream from the mixing location and a signal is sent to control feed of ink and dampening fluid to the mixing location to ensure that the desired ratio of ink to water is maintained.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 28, 1987
Date of Patent: September 12, 1989
    Assignee: Rockwell International Corporation
Inventors: Eugene M. Van Kanegan, Frank J. Doyle, Thomas A. Fadner
  • Patent number: 4628815
Abstract: An improved printing cylinder/plate lockup combination in which the plate cylinder has a groove running laterally across its width. A magnet contained in a magnetic insulator is secured to the cylinder within the groove. The magnetic insert contains four register pins in a configuration which provides for plate cylinder reversibility while fitting into a small arc of the cylinder's surface. The magnetically securable plate is prepared with a variety of openings adjacent the trailing and leading ends of the plate which secure the plate in predetermined registry without the need for critical manufacturing tolerances.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 15, 1985
Date of Patent: December 16, 1986
    Assignee: Rockwell International Corporation
    Inventor: Eugene M. Van Kanegan
  • Patent number: 4598546
Abstract: A transmission device for mechanical power having continuously variable drive ratio and the capability for a wide ratio range is inherently simple in mechanical construction thru use of a rotary gear pump which hydraulically drives a rotary gear motor. Pump and motor are variable in displacement and a construction is taught which axially positions the pump and motor elements so their displacements are adjusted in opposite volumetric directions when effecting a drive ratio adjustment, thereby providing a wide range in possible drive ratios and still maintaining simplicity.
