    Abstract: A method of deriving angular acceleration of a drill bit includes receiving data from one or more sensors of a sensor module installed on a drill bit. The one or more sensors include at least one accelerometer and at least one rotational motion sensor. The data received from the one or more sensors may be filtered. Angular velocity and angular acceleration are calculated from acceleration data received from the at least one accelerometer in response to a determination that the at least one rotational motion sensor is not providing accurate data.

    Abstract: A weight and torque sensor for an earth-boring drill bit may include a ring structure having a front face, a rear face, an inside surface, and an outside surface. A major axis of the sensor may be parallel to a longitudinal axis of the drill bit when the weight and torque sensor is mounted to the earth-boring drill bit. The sensor may include a weight strain gauge disposed on the inside surface of the ring structure. The weight strain gauge may be at a position on the inside surface of the ring structure that is aligned with, or perpendicular to, the major axis. The sensor may further include a torque strain gauge disposed on the inside surface of the ring structure. The torque strain gauge may be at a position on the inside surface of the ring structure that is offset but not perpendicular to the major axis.
