  • Patent number: 9042255
Abstract: Systems and techniques for crosstalk estimation. One or more user devices feed back preceding matrix indicator rank information to one or more base stations, which generated channel state information reference sources, at least one of which includes weightings based on the preceding matrix indicator rank information. One or more user devices estimates channel information based on active preceding matrix indicator information received by the base station from at least one user device. One or more user devices computes channel estimates for a desired transmission channel and one or more other potential transmission channels associated with other user devices and performs crosstalk estimation for the estimated channels. Crosstalk estimation information is fed back to a base station, which performs scheduling based at least in part on the crosstalk estimation from the one or more user devices.

  • Publication number: 20150003548
Abstract: A method includes transmitting reference signals to user equipment from an active antenna array system including a multiple of antennas arrayed in at least a vertical direction. The active antenna array system is configured to perform the transmitting of the reference signals using multiple vertical beams having vertical patterns designed to provide desired vertical patterns after codebook feedback from a codebook is applied on transmissions from logical ports of the antenna array. The method includes receiving codebook feedback from the user equipment in response to transmitting the reference signals. The method includes transmitting information to the user equipment at least by applying selected entries of the codebook corresponding to the codebook feedback to the logical ports of the antenna array, wherein application of the selected entries causes the active antenna array system to perform transmitting information using multiple beams having the desired vertical patterns.

  • Publication number: 20140355702
Abstract: A method includes receiving a number of indicators from a number of UEs. Each value of an indicator corresponds to entry(ies) of a codebook the corresponding UE recommends to be used for transmission. The method includes assigning the UE to a number of groups, including a first group of UEs having values of indicators corresponding to first codebook entries that when applied to an antenna array produce a pattern in elevation that steers a beam away from an underlying cell, and a second group of UEs having values of indicators corresponding to second codebook entries that are different from the first codebook entries. The method includes transmitting, in a first set of RBs having a first characteristic, to the UEs in the first group and transmitting, in a second set of RBs having a second, different characteristic, to the UEs in the second group. Apparatus and program products are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8848815
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing channel feedback is provided herein. During operation a covariance matrix at time t (R) is calculated as a function of a received downlink signal. Matrix Ct is also calculated and is based on a previous quantized covariance matrix (Rqt?1), the covariance matrix (R) at time t, and a forgetting factor (?) that is applied to Rqt?1. The Ct is then used to create a DERC feedback message (signal or waveform) and may be transmitted with pilots on a proper feedback channel to a base unit. The base unit receives the feedback (Ct) as a DERC waveform on a proper feedback channel. The base unit uses non-coherent or coherent detection to detect the DERC values send by the remote unit and uses the DERC values with a previous quantized covariance matrix estimate, a forgetting factor, and a weighting value to compute a covariance matrix estimate to use for beamforming.

  • Publication number: 20140187282
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for a power control (e.g., at least for DL power control) in a cell using a concept of a relative load in a network such as a wireless network. The relative load may be a ratio of cell's own load relative to an average load in a cluster of neighboring cells for scaling a nominal power value (or a function of the power value). The load can be measured, for example, either as a number of UEs in the cell, a RB utilization in the cell, a DL information traffic in the cell, or any other metric that's representative of the load in the cell. The resulting computed power for a DL signaling can be either on a per cell basis or on a per UE basis.

  • Patent number: 8619894
Abstract: Systems and techniques for beamforming are disclosed. Codebook antenna ports, such as ports defined by the 8 transmit antenna LTE codebook, are mapped to sub-elements of an antenna array arranged to form a plurality of elevation and azimuth ports, such as 4 elevation and 2 azimuth ports or 2 elevation and 4 azimuth ports. The mapping is chosen so as to optimize performance. Phasing values may also be applied to signal components provided as inputs to the sub-elements, with the values chosen to maximize performance, such as rank 1 gain or rank 2 or higher performance.

  • Publication number: 20130310019
Abstract: A user equipment UE takes measurements of at least a first and a second transmission point. The UE applies a bias value in favor of the second transmission point to at least one of the measurements, and thereafter utilizes the measurements after the bias value is applied to select a set of transmission points to recommend for cooperative multipoint CoMP transmissions. In more specific examples: the first and second transmission points are respective macro and micro/pico cells, and the UE further measures channel state information CSI from each transmission point of the selected CoMP set and reports that without applying the bias value to any of them. The examples show this approach works even if the cells share a common physical cell ID PCID.

  • Publication number: 20130162476
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and computer-readable storage media perform phasing of a first array including one or more antenna elements and phasing of a second array including one or more antenna elements to provide a combined radiation pattern for the first and second arrays, the first array having a first radiation pattern and the second array having a second radiation pattern, wherein the first radiation pattern is substantially orthogonal to the second radiation pattern. The combined radiation pattern is controlled in a first dimension based upon an uplink channel measurement. The combined radiation pattern is controlled in a second dimension based upon a precoding feedback from a user equipment (UE).

  • Patent number: 8391173
Abstract: In an OFDM communication system, wherein a frequency bandwidth is divided into multiple Physical Resource Units (PRUs), a Frequency Partitioning Configuration Module (FPCM) is provided that configures a physical layer for use in multiple coverage areas. The FPCM divides the PRUs into a first group, for frequency selective allocations, and a second group, for frequency diverse allocations. The FPCM subdivides each of the two groups into multiple sets of PRUs, maps the sets of PRUs from the first group to consecutive PRUs allocated for contiguous segment allocation (CS-PRUs), and maps the sets of PRUs from the second group to consecutive PRUs allocated for distributed segment allocation (DS-PRUs). The FPCM permutes the DS-PRUs and allocates the CS-PRUs and the permuted DS-PRUs to at least one frequency partition.

  • Publication number: 20120147813
Abstract: During operation, the choice of the initial ranging code (sometimes referred to as a ranging preamble code, or a random-access preamble) at the mobile station is associated with a PMI feedback to be signaled to the base station during the initial ranging. More particularly, during initial system access a ranging code is transmitted by the mobile station to the base station. The mobile station chooses one of the available ranging codes based on the channel conditions and associates the ranging code with channel feedback information. The ranging code is then transmitted to the base station, and provides the base station with the channel feedback information.
