Publication number: 20240065387Abstract: Embodiments described herein take the form of a fastener, such as a button, clasp, or the like, that magnetically attracts a button to an enclosure, thereby securely closing the fastener. In one example embodiment, the fastener includes a base and a ring. The ring defines an aperture and the base includes a button. The button can move perpendicularly to a surface of the base that abuts or otherwise engages the ring. The ring includes multiple magnets typically positioned within a body of the ring and, generally, at opposing positions along a circumference or perimeter of the ring. Similarly, a magnet is positioned within the button. As the ring approaches the base, the ring magnets attract the button magnet, drawing it into the ring and closing or securing the fastener. The button moves transversely to the polarization direction of the ring magnets (and button magnet) as the button extends.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2023Publication date: February 29, 2024Inventors: Patrick Kessler, Anthony Ashcroft, Jeremy Bataillou, Eugene Whang

Patent number: 11536446Abstract: An electronic device such as a voice-controlled speaker device may have a housing. A speaker and other input-output components and control circuitry may be mounted within the housing. Light-emitting components may emit light that passes through a curved upper top cap portion or other housing structure. The light-emitting components may be interconnected using a flex circuit on a curved substrate or may be mounted on a planar circuit board. A subset of the light-emitting components may be rotated to improve color balance. Optical structures such as light guides, lens, microlenses, and/or a diffuser layer may be disposed over the light-emitting components to promote light mixing, to reduce hotspots, and to improve contrast on the top cap. The diffuser layer may be suspended using a support structure having baffle members to constraint the angular spread of the emitted light. Illuminated or persistently visible glyphs may be displayed in or near the top cap portion.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2021Date of Patent: December 27, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Rong Liu, Andrew Baek, Ethan W. Patent number: 11128943Abstract: An earpiece is described that includes a driver housing that encloses an audio driver. The driver housing is oriented so that a first end of the driver housing can be supported by a concha bowl of a user's ear and a second end opposite the first end can tilt outside of the user's ear so that the ear need not accommodate an entirety of the driver housing. The driver housing is held in place by an ear clip that engages an exterior portion of the user's ear and attaches to the driver housing by way of a bridge element that can enclose other electronic components such as a battery, antenna, processor and the like.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2019Date of Patent: September 21, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Dustin A.
