  • Patent number: 5814711
Abstract: This invention discloses a novel process to prepare multi-block copolymers with high molecular weights from two immiscible polymer segments. In one embodiment, the two polymer segments are reacted in a solvent mixture which comprises N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and diglyme. Such polymers are useful for alignment layer applications in display devices.

  • Patent number: 5773144
Abstract: A rubber-polyester composite comprising a rubber and a core-and-sheath heterocomponent fiber wherein the fiber core is formed from a linear polyester derived from an alkyl glycol and an aromatic diacid, and wherein the fiber sheath is formed from a compatibilizing acid-terminated or isocyanate-terminated polyester. The fiber sheath may also be composed of a blend of a thermoplastic elastomer and the compatibilizing polyester.

  • Patent number: 5654097
Abstract: Bilayer filaments and fused cords thereof are described. The product is particularly useful for tire cord and filaments include a core of a partially crystalline, oriented polymer and a shell or sheath formed of a blend of robber and a relatively low melting polymer. A particularly preferred embodiment includes a poly(ethylene terephalate) core as well as a sheath of copolyester blended with poly(styrene-elastomer-styrene) elastomer.

  • Patent number: 4112212
Abstract: An ultra-high molecular weight methacryloyloxybenzoic acid polymer is provided which, unlike the lower molecular weight polymers of the prior art, is stable even when undergoing melt processing. The method of producing such a polymer involves a free radical polymerization of the monomer at relatively low temperatures in an aqueous solution which contains an alkali metal hydroxide and a free radical initiator.

  • Patent number: 4075269
Abstract: An improved process for preparing wholly aromatic polyamide fibers of high performance charcteristics is provided. The process includes the steps of providing a spinning solution of a wholly aromatic polyamide, the polyamide having a sulfur content as sulfonic acid and/or sulfonate groups attached to the aromatic nuclei of at least 0.5 percent by weight based on the weight of the polyamide; spinning the spinning solution of the wholly aromatic polyamide to produce an as-spun fiber having an inherent viscosity of at least 1.0; and heat treating the as-spun fiber under sufficient tension to maintain a constant length or to elongate the fiber up to about 5 percent of the as-spun length while heating within a range of about 150.degree. C. to about 650.degree. C. The resulting fibers have a tenacity of at least 15 grams per denier, an elongation of at least 1.5 percent, and an initial modulus of at least 400 grams per denier.
