  • Patent number: 10072939
Abstract: A method in an electronic device includes receiving, with an audio capture device such as a microphone, a request for navigational information. One or more processors of the electronic device then identify a transit mode. The one or more processors also detect, with one or more sensors, one or more contextual cues from an environment about the electronic device. The contextual cues can include a geo-location, transit mode, bearing, or other factors. The one or more processors then provide a navigation information response that is a function of the transit mode and the one or more contextual cues to a user interface of the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20160365101
Abstract: A method includes identifying an event generated by a software application executed by a processor in a device. The event is not associated with a user interaction with the device. Without requesting or receiving user input from a user of the device, a microphone of the device is enabled for a predetermined time period after identifying the occurrence of the event to identify a user voice command. The user voice command is executed. A method includes generating an event alert notification on a speaker of a device. Without querying a user of the device, a microphone of the device is enabled for a predetermined time period after generating the event alert notification to identify a user voice command. The user voice command is executed.

  • Patent number: 9438721
Abstract: Embodiments are provided for distinguishing certain transportation modes for an electronic device based on connection signal data. According to certain aspects, the electronic device may determine (458) that it is being transported by a vehicle. The electronic device searches or detects (460) nearby WLAN and/or WPAN signals and identifies (464), based on the detected signals, how many devices are nearby the electronic device. The electronic device compares (468) the number of nearby devices to a threshold amount and, based on the comparison, either initiates (472) a public transportation mode or initiates (470) a driving mode.
