  • Patent number: 5496908
Abstract: A water-soluble polyurethane, including a polymer backbone; end groups provided on the ends of the polymer backbone and containing water-soluble oxyethylene groups having a molecular weight ranging from 400 to 15,000, and groups pendant from the polymer backbone and containing hydrocarbon groups having 8-22 carbon atoms, in a number of at least 0.1 per urethane bond. The water-soluble polyurethane has moderate viscosities in aqueous solution and is especially useful as a thickener, for instance, in alkyd- or latex-based paints.

  • Patent number: 5101051
Abstract: Epoxides are prepared by reaction of compounds containing olefinic unsaturation, for example .alpha.-olefins, terpenes and steroids, with an aliphatic diperoxydicarboxylic acid. The diperoxydicarboxylic acid contains 2 to 16 carbon atoms and suitably at least 6 carbon atoms. The process gives a good epoxidation process and does not give rise to byproduct formation.
