  • Publication number: 20110287227
Abstract: It is proposed to produce a workpiece (10) with a metal-oxide-coated surface (9) with a selectable degree of hydrophobic behaviour, by the surface of a substrate material (1) being provided at least in partial regions with a microstructure (2, 3) by mechanical embossing and subsequently being coated. The microstructuring is followed by depositing a hydrocarbon- or silicon-dioxide-containing protective layer (6) and/or at least one top layer (7), on the surface (9) of which the desired hydrophobic properties occur. The sterilizing and catalytic effect of the metal-oxide-containing top layer (7) is enhanced or produced by incorporation of metal-containing nanoparticles.

  • Patent number: 7166366
Abstract: A composite comprises a chemical, mechanical and/or optical protective and/or diffusion barrier layer disposed on a metal or plastic substrate. The layer consists of an organic layer matrix with metal-containing particles dispersed therein, the metal-containing organic layer being plasma-polymerized starting from at least one hydrocarbon which can be substituted and one metal-containing component. The protective and/or diffusion barrier layer is used in a thickness (d) in the submicron range and contains metal particles finely dispersed therein, that have a grain size that lies below 50% of the layer thickness (d). The organic layer matrix is deposited by plasma polymerization from a process gas that comprises at least one hydrocarbon that can also be substituted and one metal-containing component and/or an inorganic gas in a reactor that can be evacuated.

  • Publication number: 20040149759
Abstract: The invention relates to a gastight, pressure-resistant storage and/or transport container (10) for low-molecular, reactive filling media, especially for hydrogen, oxygen, air, methane and/or methanol. Said container has a high filling pressure and is embodied in an essentially rotationally symmetric manner, having at least one connector cap (15) with a sealing device (16). The wall (12) of the container is essentially comprised of a thermoplastic synthetic material having at least one diffusion barrier (18, 19) system and/or a diffusion barrier and anti-corrosion system (18, 19). In order to offer protection for hydrogen and oxygen containers, the diffusion barrier system can be embodied in the form of at least one compact layer and/or can contain finely dispersed, distributed reactive nanoparticles (18) in the wall (12) of the container, in at least one composite film (28) and/or in at least one diffusion barrier layer (18).

  • Patent number: 6746721
Abstract: The coating of substrates, particularly polymers and ceramic or metal substrate, for the production of a polar, polymeric coating is conducted by plasma polymerization. The process gas used for this purpose is free from water or water vapor and contains at least one organic compound, in addition to an inorganic gas and/or carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide and/or ammonium and/or nitrogen and/or another gas containing nitrogen.

  • Patent number: 6686302
Abstract: The invention relates to an organic diffusion barrier layer (58) applied to a substrate (44). Said barrier layer has an apolar skeletal structure and a high barrier effect with respect to volatile gases, vapors and liquids. The diffusion barrier layer (58) consists of a hydrocarbon polymer that is produced by means of plasma polymerization. It respectively contains 0.01-6 at % of at least one element from the group consisting of oxygen, nitrogen, fluorine, bromine, boron and silicon, whereby the total amount of said elements does not exceed 12 at %. The barrier effect of the diffusion barrier layer (58) is produced by means of at least one pulsed or continuous DC magnetron sputtering source plasma (26) or by means of inductively excited, pulsed or continuous microwave discharge (20).
