  • Patent number: 4167214
Abstract: In a well treating process in which an acidic solution having a pH of less than about 2 tends to dissolve ferric ion-containing materials from the well conduits and to precipitate ferric ion-containing solids when the pH of the solution increases beyond about 3, such a precipitation can be prevented by dissolving limited proportions of both 5-sulfosalicylic acid and citric acid within the acidic solution to be injected.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 13, 1978
Date of Patent: September 11, 1979
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
    Inventor: Evan H. Street, Jr.
  • Patent number: 3953340
Abstract: Siliceous materials in or around a well are dissolved by contacting them with a self-acidifying aqueous liquid system comprising an aqueous solution of at least one water-soluble fluoride salt mixed with a relatively slowly-reactive acid-yielding material that subsequently converts the salt solution to a hydrofluoric acid solution that has a relatively high pH but is capable of dissolving siliceous material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 3, 1974
Date of Patent: April 27, 1976
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
Inventors: Charles C. Templeton, Evan H. Street, Jr, Edwin A. Richardson
  • Patent number: 3945679
Abstract: In producing shale oil by circulating hot fluid into and out of a rubble-containing cavern within a subterranean oil shale, plugging is avoided by permeating a portion of oil shale, consolidating a permeated portion, inflowing fluid outside the consolidated portion, and outflowing fluid from within the consolidated portion so the fluid is filtered through the consolidated portion.
