  • Patent number: 6671357
Abstract: An apparatus for interrupting data transmissions along a communications link between an input terminal and an output terminal of the apparatus. According to one embodiment, the apparatus includes a switch connected in series along the communications link, a bandpass filter and a processor. The bandpass filter includes an input terminal connected to the communications link and an output terminal connected to an input terminal of the processor. The processor includes an output terminal connected to a control terminal of the switch. The processor is programmed to detect participation in a handshake operation by a modem connected to the communications link and open the switch when participation in a handshake operation is detected.

  • Patent number: 6384739
Abstract: The system provides a method for gathering and sending monitored traffic data via a short messaging system message over a wireless network through a publicly switched telephone network (“PSTN”) to a central computer. A remote traffic monitoring unit acts as a data collection device collecting data regarding the traffic count and other conditions at its particular location. The remote traffic monitoring unit can monitor different types of traffic—for example, motor vehicles, trains, and pedestrians. The system routes data messages including monitored traffic count data from the remote traffic monitoring unit to a central computer and routes control information from the central computer to the remote traffic monitoring unit.

  • Patent number: 6223050
Abstract: Setting a remote timepiece with the correct time using a time stamp transmitted over a data channel of a wireless telecommunications system. A data message is created which includes an address for the remote timepiece and a time stamp. The time stamp may include time and date information. The data message is transmitted over a data channel of the wireless telecommunications system. Based upon the address, the data message is received by the remote timepiece. The remote timepiece extracts the time stamp from the data message and uses the time stamp to set the remote timepiece in accordance with the time stamp.
