  • Publication number: 20160251592
Abstract: A composition contains a propylene oxide/butylene oxide copolymer with an ethylene oxide/propylene oxide copolymer where the propylene oxide/butylene oxide copolymer has a concentration of propylene oxide moieties in a range of 25-75 wt % based on total of propylene oxide and butylene oxide moieties, the ethylene oxide/propylene oxide copolymer has a concentration of ethylene oxide moieties that is greater than zero and up to 60 wt % based on the total weight of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide moieties, and wherein the concentration of the ethylene oxide/propylene oxide copolymer is greater than zero and one wt % or less based on the total weight of propylene oxide/butylene oxide and ethylene oxide/propylene oxide copolymers and the ethylene oxide/propylene oxide copolymer is a reverse copolymer or a random copolymer.

  • Publication number: 20160068780
Abstract: Provided are lubricant compositions comprising a hydrocarbon base oil and a polyoxybutylene polymer prepared by polymerizing butylene oxide with a monol initiator and having a number average molecular weight ranging from 800 g/mol to 1200 g/mol. The polyoxybutylene polymer functions as a highly active friction-modifier additive.

  • Patent number: 9273266
Abstract: A lubricant composition comprises a cycloaliphatic amine alkoxylate and a base oil selected from (a) a polyalkylene glycol; (b) a polyalphaolefin; (c) a naphthenic compound; and (d) combinations thereof; provided that the cycloaliphatic amine alkoxylate and the base oil are miscible. The lubricant may exhibit a viscosity change at 40° C. of less than 5 percent (%) after 13 days at 120° C. in dry air, indicating significant thermoxidative stability with minimal or no aromatic content, thereby enabling use of Groups II and III base oils, in particular, without reduced toxicity and/or quality concerns as compared with Group I base oil lubricants.

  • Patent number: 8969271
Abstract: Certain polyalkylene glycols, useful as lubricant additives, are soluble with all four types of hydrocarbon base oils (Groups I-IV) at a wide variety of ratios of oil to polyalkylene glycol and under a variety of conditions. These polyalkylene glycols are prepared by reacting a C8-C20 alcohol and a mixed butylene oxide/propylene oxide feed, wherein the ratio of butylene oxide to propylene oxide ranges from 3:1 to 1:1. The invention provides a means of providing desirable lubricant compositions which may pose fewer environmental problems.
