  • Publication number: 20060059425
Abstract: A method of selecting options arranged in a hierarchy including a first level and at least one additional level is described. The method includes displaying a hierarchical-selection visual object. A selection action of the hierarchical-selection visual object may cause a display list, containing at least one hierarchy item and possibly selectable items, to be shown. Detecting a pointing action at a hierarchy item may cause a lower level display list to be displayed. Lower level display lists may include selectable items, hierarchy items, or both. Multiple levels of hierarchy may be displayed in this manner. With the display lists shown, a second selection action may cause the selected item to be displayed in an information area of the hierarchical-selection visual object. Other embodiments comprise a computer readable medium having stored thereon computer instructions, and a computer system for executing the computer instructions to perform the method of selecting options.

  • Publication number: 20060004848
Abstract: Methods and a system are disclosed for presenting attributes and associations of a first object managed within a data model. The attributes and associations can be displayed in a user dialog. According to an exemplary embodiment, a first attribute and a second attribute of the first object and an identity of a second object associated with the first object within the data model are collected from the data model. The first and second attributes and objects each relate to respective application programs configured to use the data model. The first and second attributes are included on a first page of the user dialog, and identities of the first and second objects are included on a second page of the user dialog. A software link is provided between the first and second pages of the dialog to provide automated access to the first and second pages via the link.

  • Publication number: 20050273728
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for navigating a user dialog configured to accomplish a task. The dialog can be configured to display first and second pages of attribute fields to prompt an input of attribute values for use in accomplishing the task. Each page can be separately displayable in the user dialog. According to exemplary embodiments, a dynamically alterable summary of the attribute fields and values is included on a portion of the first page of the dialog. The attribute fields and values included in the summary are arranged into groups. A first group includes the attribute fields and values displayable on the first page of the dialog, and a second group includes the attribute fields and values displayable on the second page of the dialog. A first software link is provided between the second group and the second page of the dialog to provide automated access to the second page via the second group.

  • Publication number: 20050268306
Abstract: A method and system are described for presenting actions associated with a managed object in a task context. According to an exemplary method, access to a plurality of task domains associated with the object is provided through a shared user interface. A portion of the actions associated with the object directly related to a task domain is identified. The portion of the actions directly related to the task domain is presented using a first element of the user interface, such as a context menu displayable near a location of a representation of the object within the user interface. A software link is provided between the first element and a second element of the user interface, such as a dialog box, configured to present a remaining portion of the actions associated with the object.

  • Publication number: 20050243067
Abstract: A method and system are described of providing for keyboard navigation of a displayable representation of connectable objects. According to an exemplary embodiment, a method of providing for keyboard navigation of a displayable representation of connectable objects includes assigning keystrokes to provide for separately traversing a plurality of connectable objects included in the displayable representation, a plurality of connectors associated with an object, and a link between respective connectors of a pair of connected objects. Each traversal proceeds according to a respective predetermined sequence. The method includes detecting one of the assigned keystrokes. A location cursor is associated with one element of the group of objects, connectors, and link based on an existing association of the location cursor with one of the elements when the keystroke is detected and the predetermined sequence associated with the detected keystroke.

  • Patent number: 5644738
Abstract: A context identification system is implemented in a window manager to optimize association of menu items with windows. The context identification system has an application registration mechanism, a window creation mechanism, and a menu item placement mechanism. The application registration mechanism creates menu items to be placed in windows for display. Each menu item comprises a context expression, a predefined function specification defining an action to be taken by the window manager when the menu item is prompted, and a menu string defining a display image corresponding to the menu item. The window creation mechanism defines windows for display. A context list of context identifiers is maintained by the window creation mechanism for each window. Finally, the menu item placement mechanism determines which menu items are to be placed in each window based upon an evaluation of a context expression associated with each menu item and the context list of context identifiers associated with each window.
