  • Publication number: 20090245197
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and devices for mitigating inter-cell interference in communication environments having a plurality of cells. In some embodiments, a time-frequency transmission resource that includes multiple sub-carriers over multiple OFDM symbol intervals is partitioned into a first zone and a second zone. In the first zone, transmissions are transmitted on at least one frequency sub-band which is common to all of the plurality of cells. In the second zone, transmissions are transmitted on at least one frequency sub-band which is used by less than all of the plurality of cells, so as to mitigate inter-cell interference. In some embodiments, in the first zone transmissions are transmitted using a transmission power which is common to all of the plurality of cells and in the second zone transmissions are transmitted using a transmission power which is used by less than all of the plurality of cells so as to mitigate inter-cell interference.

  • Patent number: 7330482
Abstract: The digital symbols of a sequence are assigned to respective positions in successive timeslots, according to a predetermined slot format. In a plurality of timeslots, a symbol of the sequence is replaced by a substitution symbol carrying additional information. A signal representing the sequence of symbols, which is divided into the timeslots, is transmitted on a communication channel. The production of the sequence includes an interleaving having an interleaving period longer than a timeslot, generally performed after a channel coding. The position of the substitution symbols in the timeslots which include them is varied, in order to optimize the performances of the transmission chain.

  • Publication number: 20050176435
Abstract: The invention concerns a method which consists in allocating to a base station, at a control member of the base station, a list of channels shared by several terminals containing several sets of shared channels. For a communication session between the base station and a specific terminal, it consists in indicating to the terminal the list of shared channels allocated to the base station. At the base station, it consists in selecting for the terminal one of the sets of shared channels, and independently of the control member, indicating the selected set to the terminal via a dedicated channel.

  • Patent number: 6901113
Abstract: A scheme for multiplexing transport channels on one or several communication channels is used to operate in a normal mode and in a compressed mode which requires a lower symbol rate to provide in active periods in the communication channels. To match the symbol rate on each of the transport channels, a symbol puncturing is performed in two passes: marked symbols are introduced and are subjected, along with the other information symbols, to different operations including an interleaving, before being deleted from the transmitted sequence. Accordingly, those operations can be performed in the same manner in the normal and compressed modes, which limits the complexity of the communicating entities.

  • Patent number: 6839876
Abstract: A preamble for a reverse access channel (RACH) of a CDMA (code division multiple access) communications system comprises a pair of constituent Golay sequences A and B concatenated with at least one pair, and preferably a plurality of different pairs, of transformed sequences which are also constituent Golay sequences, each pair of transformed sequences comprising a permutation of elements of the pair of sequences A and B. The permutations can include a reversed order of elements in the sequences, a reversed order of some or all of a set of address bits identifying locations of elements in the sequences, a concatenation of subsets of elements in odd and even locations of the sequences A and B, and combinations of these permutations. • Patent number: 6646995
Abstract: A mobile radio system enables exchange of bidirectional digital signals between at least one mobile station and at least one base transceiver station and provides at least two coding modes, each mode corresponding to a predetermined source code and a predetermined channel code for the transmission of a wanted signal for each transmission direction. Each source code corresponds to a given user bit rate and each channel code corresponds to a given coding efficiency and therefore to a given total bit rate for a given source code. For adaptation of the air interface of this system, at the time of a call between a mobile station and a base transceiver station, two separate analyses of transmission quality are carried out for each transmission direction, respectively, and, for each transmission direction, one of the coding modes is selected in accordance with the corresponding transmission quality analysis.

  • Publication number: 20020150040
Abstract: The present invention provides an automated retransmission request-based system wherein packets are continuously transmitted from a transmitter to a receiver. During reception, the receiver will send either an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative-acknowledgement (NAK) to the transmitter, depending on whether or not the corresponding packet was properly received. In response to the NAKs, the transmitter will identify the packet that was not properly received, which is referred to as the packet for retransmission. The transmitter will divide the packet for retransmission into multiple subpackets, and puncture each subpacket into a packet in the sequence of packets being transmitted to the receiver. The receiver will recover the subpackets from the punctured packets and will recreate the packet for retransmission from the recovered subpackets.

  • Patent number: 6459690
Abstract: A channel selector device for a multiple access system of direct transmission between mobile stations carries out measurements on various channels during calls in order to determine if there is a better channel than the traffic channel used for the call. • Patent number: 5559829
Abstract: A method of constructing a spreading code associated with one user of a direct sequence code division multiple access digital transmission system includes at least one stage of concatenating a plurality of different sub-codes. Specifically, the spreading code is constructed by concatenating at least two different, in particular, cyclically different, basic sub-codes belonging to the same family of basic sub-codes, and at least one secondary sub-code obtained by circular permutation of one of the basic sub-codes. The constructed spreading code is then designated as being associated with the one user.

  • Patent number: 5533047
Abstract: A threshold detector for digital signal transmission systems using a transmission channel, in particular for transmission to mobiles, calculates a set of coefficients f.sub.n belonging to the group comprising a set of coefficients c.sub.n of the correlation between a first series of digital samples x.sub.n received by the receiver and a second series of reference digital samples p.sub.n known to the receiver, in order to acquire synchronization of the system, and a set of coefficients h.sub.n of an estimate of the impulse response of the transmission channel, when the system is already synchronized. It also calculates a decision variable A such that: ##EQU1## where L and N are predetermined integers.
