Abstract: There is disclosed apparatus and method for unerasably marking computer and other information records and the like in a precise, machine readable manner so as to identify the particular record, and to control access to the record by providing means for authenticating a control member presented for access to the record. The illustrated system involves preparing a master card of opaque material through which micro patterns have been burned by a laser.
