  • Patent number: 4557734
Abstract: Hybrid fuel microemulsions are prepared from vegetable oil, methanol or ethanol, a straight-chain isomer of octanol, and optionally water. The fuels are characterized by a relatively high water tolerance, acceptable viscosity, and performance properties comparable to No. 2 diesel fuel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 8, 1984
Date of Patent: December 10, 1985
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Arthur W. Schwab, Everett H. Pryde
  • Patent number: 4526586
Abstract: Hybrid fuel microemulsions are prepared from vegetable oil, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alcohol, water, and 1-butanol as the nonionic surfactant. These fuels are characterized by an acceptable viscosity and compare favorably to No. 2 diesel fuel in terms of engine performance properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 24, 1982
Date of Patent: July 2, 1985
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Arthur W. Schwab, Everett H. Pryde
  • Patent number: 4451267
Abstract: Hybrid fuel microemulsions are prepared from vegetable oil, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alcohol, water, and a surfactant comprising a lower trialkylamine. For enhanced water tolerance by the fuel, the amine is reacted with a long-chain fatty acid for conversion to the corresponding trialkylammonium soap. Optionally, 1-butanol is incorporated into the system as a cosurfactant for the purpose of lowering both the viscosity and the solidification temperature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 29, 1982
Date of Patent: May 29, 1984
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Arthur W. Schwab, Everett H. Pryde
  • Patent number: 4321210
Abstract: Cyclopropenoid compounds such as malvalic and sterculic fatty acids found in sterculia oil are rearranged substantially quantitatively to conjugated dienes when heated in the presence of a rhodium catalyst. The dienes can thereafter be reduced to the corresponding branched chain derivatives by means of hydrogenation with the same catalyst. Both the diene and branched derivatives have application in the production of plastics, coatings, lubricants, soaps, cosmetics, and other commercial products.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 15, 1981
Date of Patent: March 23, 1982
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Yoshinori Kai, Everett H. Pryde
  • Patent number: 4124558
Abstract: Alkyl 9,9(10,10)-bis(acyloxymethyl)octadecanoates were prepared from 9(10)-formylstearic acid and found to function as primary plasticizers. Polyvinylchloride resins plasticized by these compounds have permanence and heat stability properties superior to those of resins plasticized with dioctyl phthalate, dioctyl sebacate, or other commercially available plasticizers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 7, 1978
Date of Patent: November 7, 1978
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: William R. Miller, Everett H. Pryde

  • Patent number: 4083816
Abstract: Acetoxymethyl derivatives of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty compounds including their vegetable oil triglycerides were prepared and found to function as primary plasticizers. Polyvinylchloride resins plasticized by the derivative compositions of the invention have permanance properties equal or superior to resins plasticized by dioctyl phthalate, dioctyl sebacate, or other commercial plasticizers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 25, 1976
Date of Patent: April 11, 1978
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Edwin N. Frankel, Everett H. Pryde
  • Patent number: 3983067
Abstract: Acetal derivatives of polyunsaturated fatty compositions were prepared and found to function as primary plasticizers. Poly(vinyl chloride) resins plasticized by the compositions of the invention have properties equal or superior to resins plasticized by dioctyl phthalate or dioctyl sebacate.
