  • Patent number: 4588843
Abstract: It has been discovered that when reaction is effected between an alkali metal omega-amino-alkoxide and an alkyl halide, nucleophilic attack of the alkoxide on the alkyl halide occurs so that an (alkoxyalkyl)amine is formed. The conventional Hofmann displacement reaction (elimination of CH.sub.3 Br) does not occur to any significant extent. Nor does the common olefin elimination reaction occur to any significant extent when using alkali metal omega-aminoalkoxides having one or two C.sub.2 or higher alkyl substituents on the nitrogen atom.

    Filed: April 26, 1984
Date of Patent: May 13, 1986
    Assignee: Ethyl Corporation

  • Patent number: 4478813
Abstract: When subjecting a mixture of beryllium and an alkali metal aluminum complex of the formulaMAlR.sub.m H.sub.nwherein M is an alkali metal, R is a hydrocarbyl group, m is an integer from 1 to 4, n is an integer from 0 to 3, the total of m and n being 4, to a pressurized atmosphere of hydrogen and an elevated temperature, a solid reaction product is produced. This product, composed of M.sub.2 BeH.sub.4 and other solid components, is mixed with an inert liquid diluent having a specific gravity above that of the M.sub.2 BeH.sub.4 but below that of essentially all of the other solid components. A separation is effected in this diluent between the M.sub.2 BeH.sub.4 and essentially all of such other solid components, and the M.sub.2 BeH.sub.4 is recovered.

  • Patent number: 4474743
Abstract: A process for the coproduction of silane and AlF.sub.3 is described. SiF.sub.4 and amine alane (AlH.sub.3.NR.sub.3) complexes are reacted to produce gaseous silane and AlF.sub.3 coproduct. The amine tends to complex somewhat with coproduct AlF.sub.3 but is released therefrom by heating. AlF.sub.3 is a very saleable commodity thereby making the invention an improvement over other hydride reactions which produce less usable coproducts.

  • Patent number: 4455433
Abstract: An acid having a dissociation constant of at least 1.3.times.10.sup.-5 at 25.degree. C. is used to enhance the yield of alkyl, 1,4-dialkyl-3-alkoxycarbonylpyrrole-2-acetate in the reaction of a chloromethyl alkyl ketone with a dialkyl acetone dicarboxylate and an alkylamine in a reaction medium comprising an organic solvent. The preferred acid is formic acid.
