  • Publication number: 20120167620
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for separating CO2 from a gas stream containing CO2. A gas stream having an initial pressure is compressed and subsequently cooled. The compressed and cooled gas stream has an increased pressure and reduced temperature at which the CO2 in the gas stream is at least partially converted to the liquid phase. The liquid phase is separated from the compressed and cooled gas stream, to provide a liquid phase stream and a gas phase stream, wherein the output pressure of the liquid phase stream is higher than the initial pressure of the gas stream.

  • Publication number: 20100196235
Abstract: The invention provides a process for sequestration of carbon dioxide by mineral carbonation comprising the following steps: (a) converting a magnesium or calcium sheet silicate hydroxide into a magnesium or calcium ortho- or chain silicate by bringing the silicate hydroxide in direct or indirect heat-exchange contact with hot flue gas to obtain the silicate, silica, water and cooled flue gas; (b) contacting the silicate obtained in step (a) with carbon dioxide to convert the silicate into magnesium or calcium carbonate and silica.

  • Patent number: 6996989
Abstract: A process to recover energy from a gas having a temperature of above 650° C. and an absolute pressure of more than 1.7 bar and having non-solidified alkali containing compounds and particles by performing the following steps: (a) cooling the gas to a temperature of below 550° C. by means of a shell-tube heat exchanger, wherein the hot gas is passed at the shell side and coolant water is passed at the tube side, wherein steam is formed, from which steam energy is recovered; (b) separating the particles from the gas by means of one or more sequentially arranged centrifugal separation devices to a dust level of below 400 mg/Nm3; and (c) expanding the gas in an expander to recover energy.

  • Publication number: 20040126293
Abstract: A process to removal and capture of carbon dioxide from flue gas is provided. Carbon dioxide is extracted from flue gas by contacting the flue gas with a solvent in a solvent extraction zone (1) to obtain a carbon dioxide-depleted flue gas, regenerating the solvent in a solvent regeneration zone (2) by heating the carbon dioxide-containing solvent to obtain a regenerated solvent and a carbon dioxide stream and reacting the carbon dioxide stream obtained in step (b) with a bivalent alkaline earth metal silicate in a mineral carbonation zone (3) by contacting the carbon dioxide stream with silicate particles dispersed in an aqueous solution.
