  • Patent number: 4243437
Abstract: A process is provided for the forming of articles from leaded bronzes of copper alloy base having a lead content of at least 4% and which process includes cold working, in the forming of products or articles, and specifically the forming of bearings. Basically, the process of this invention comprises the forming of stock by chill casting techniques and the subsequent alternate steps of cold working and annealing the chill cast stock of predetermined configuration in forming of a substantially finished product or article having predetermined dimensions and configurations. The alloy is first chill cast into stock of predetermined configuration and is then subjected to cold working to effect a predetermined dimensional reduction in forming of the desired article. Annealing is accomplished between cold working operations which may include more than one pass through the cold working apparatus to obtain a predetermined reduction prior to an annealing operation.
