  • Patent number: 5630758
Abstract: The torsional flexible connection has two coaxial flanges or discs equipped with sets of equidistant radially or axially protruding blades which are interdigitated to form a plurality of wedge-shaped chambers whose sides intersect at the axis of the connection, all or some of which receive torque-transmitting flexible inserts which transmit force and rotation to one of the flanges/discs in response to the force and rotation transmitted from the other flange/disc or vice versa. Each insert is comprised of two or several elements of a streamlined shape placed at different distances from the axis, so that the dimensions of these elements in the direction of transmitted payload are proportional to their distances from the axis.

  • Patent number: 5595540
Abstract: The torsional connection has two hubs attached to the input and output shafts and an intermediate member coaxially located between the hubs. Each hub is connected with the intermediate member by two diametrically disposed pairs of laminates composed of bonded together thin alternating layers of elastomeric (rubber--like) and rigid (e.g., metal) materials. Each pair is preloaded in compression. Diameters of the intermediate member along which the pairs of laminates connecting it with each hub are located, are perpendicular to each other. Torque transmitted through the connection is loading the laminates in compression, while radial misalignments between the connected shafts are compensated by shear deformations of the laminates. The laminated elements of each pair are located on opposite sides of a two-pronged holding structure whose prongs are expanded outwardly by a preload-generating element inside the holding structure.

  • Patent number: 5595391
Abstract: An improved connection between a conical shank and conical receptacle is provided. A plurality of uniform resilient elements are mounted in a circumferential band arrangement adjacent the surface of the end of one of the shank or receptacle opposite to the end at which the shank is inserted into the receptacle. The uniform elements protrude from the surface by a dimension at least equal to the maximum clearance between the shank and receptacle. Therefore, when the shank is inserted into the receptacle, the resilient elements will contact the opposing surface to provide for accurate positioning of the shank. When the shank is fully inserted into the receptacle, reliable contact will be maintained along the entire length of the shank.

  • Patent number: 5533309
Abstract: A beam-like structural component has a tubular shape with both ends closed. The internal cavity of the tubular element is filled with core material which can undergo transformation leading to increasing its specific volume and thus to exerting pressure on the end closures of the tubular element and inducing its stretching along the axis. This results in increasing bending stiffness of the beam-like component. The transformation can be thermal expansion, phase transformation (melting or solidification); time-dependency effects after solidification; change in crystallic structure, absorption of gases or fluids, etc. In case of using liquid core materials, the tubular element is reinforced in radial directions. A clearance can be left between the core material and the tubular element. This clearance may be filled with a lubricant or elastic spacers.

  • Patent number: 5322304
Abstract: A tool holder assembly for connecting a tool to a spindle. The tool holder assembly defines a conical envelope for seating in a conical seat defined by the spindle and an annular clamping surface in surrounding relation to the conical envelope for seating against an annular clamping surface defined by the spindle. The conical envelope is resilient so as to allow simultaneous seating of the conical envelope in the conical seat of the spindle and seating of the clamping surface on the clamping seat of the spindle irrespective of the tolerances between the conical seat and the clamping seat. Several embodiments are disclosed for providing the resiliency to the conical envelope.

  • Patent number: 4557703
Abstract: A coupling for joining a pair of shafts which are rotatably supported without a common axis in such a manner as to accommodate misalignment and provide torsional flexibility includes hubs on the ends of the two shafts, each of the hubs having axially extending cams with opposed surfaces that create openings for insertion of deformable members. A spider-like coupling element formed of a rubber-like material has a central base and legs which extend from the base into the openings to contact the opposed cam surfaces. The legs of the coupling element are circular or elliptical in cross section so that they contact the opposed cam surfaces essentially at lines when there is no load on the coupling and the legs deform in unconstrained compression to increase their area of contact with the opposed cam surfaces as the load increases, creating a nonlinearity in the relationship between the stiffness of the coupling and the applied torque.

  • Patent number: 4289187
Abstract: A pneumatic vehicle wheel contains, within or on the hub, a closed air reservoir or reservoirs, connected by one or more channels to the air cavity in the tire. The dimensions of the channels are such as to allow restricted bidirectional flow of air between the tire and the reservoir, dissipating energy during the flow, for the purpose of improving the vibration resistance quality of the wheel throughout the frequency range.

  • Patent number: 4188048
Abstract: This specification discloses a resilient wheel suspension wherein a wheel is rotationally mounted upon an axle and the axle is resiliently suspended with respect to a mounting plate. The resilient suspension includes an elastomer disk which is coupled along one major surface to the axle and along the other major surface to the mounting plate. Lateral movement of the axle causes a shear to be applied in the elastomer disk. The suspension can have nonlinear characteristics by having a plurality of elastomer disks and metal disks with central openings for passing the axle and successively coupled to adjacent disks between a coupling to the axle and a coupling to the mounting plate. The size of the opening diameter increases in successive disks going from the disk adjacent to the axle to the disk adjacent to the mounting plate.
