  • Patent number: 6149973
Abstract: A process for the coating of the flow channels of a cylindrical, honeycomb form catalyst carrier with a dispersion coating through filling of the vertically oriented flow channels with a fill quantity of the coating dispersion through the bottom face of the catalyst carrier and subsequent downward emptying and clearance extraction of the flow channels, as well as drying and calcination of the catalyst carrier, by the following steps:a) filling of the flow channels with a fill quantity that is about 10% greater than the empty volume of the flow channels, so that the coating dispersion goes over the upper face of the catalyst carrier after completion of the filling cycle,b) removal of the excess coating dispersion at the top before emptying of the flow channels andc) emptying and clearance extraction of the flow channels through an extraction impulse, which is generated by connection of a vacuum tank with the bottom face of the catalyst carrier, whereby the time between the beginning of the fill cycle and the en

  • Patent number: 5165970
Abstract: A method for the uniform coating of honeycomb bodies with finely divided solid matter from a dispersion in an amount which is below that which arises during customary immersion. To this end, the honeycomb is flooded from below with dispersion, emptied after a dwell time and blown out. Filling time, filling amount, dwell time emptying time as well as the time between emptying and blowing out are measured in such a manner that in order to increase the separated amount of solid matter, filling time, dwell time, pumping-out time and the time between emptying and blowing out are increased but the filling amount is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5127960
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are disclosed for the removal and the recovery of washcoat remaining in the channels of freshly coated monolithic or honeycombed catalytic carriers. The carrier is inserted into a chamber from above and tightly fitted therein at least with the lowest part of the carrier therein. The chamber is fitted with a collection area and a runoff located thereunder. The runoff leads via a shutoff valve into a separation vessel under a vacuum. The opening and closing of the shutoff valve causes air to be aspirated through the carrier channels, which are open at the top or are gradually opened by means of a slotted slide. This action causes the washcoat remnants to be transferred into the separation vessel, where they can be collected in the sump and are then pumped off. The apparatus can be used in systems for manufacturing catalysts for cleaning exhaust gases.

  • Patent number: 4242223
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for receiving, storing and handling aluminum hydroxide wet hydrate, wherein the aluminum hydroxide wet hydrate is unloaded, optionally in batches, by means of a dumping means, e.g., a dump truck into a hopper which is equipped with a conveying means, e.g., a plate conveyor, the aluminum hydroxide wet hydrate supplied by means of a transporting apparatus, e.g., a double belt vertical conveyor, to a weighing means, e.g., a conveyor-type weigher and weighed, subsequently supplied to an aluminum hydroxide wet hydrate suspension tank, mixing the aluminum hydroxide wet hydrate in the tank with the amount of aqueous sodium hydroxide needed to produce a suspension of the aluminum hydroxide wet hydrate and producing a pumpable and meterable suspension of the aluminum hydroxide wet hydrate by heating to a temperature between 20.degree. and 100.degree. C. with the aid of a heating element and a stirrer.
