  • Patent number: 4570442
Abstract: A piston internal combustion engine in which for the engagement and disengagement of an exhaust gas turbocharger (12), its exhaust gas closure device (33) is opened, respectively, closed only so far that the charging air pressure produced by the continuously engaged exhaust gas turbocharger (11) remains approximately constant. By re-routing a small air quantity by way of a by-pass line (36) to the suction side of the compressor (24), the power input of the compressors (21 and 24) is kept small. During the engagement of the exhaust gas turbocharger (12), a small energy quantity is therefore sufficient in order to accelerate the same to its operating rotational speed. Thereafter, the engaging operation is terminated by complete opening of the exhaust gas closure device (33) and by opening of the charging air closure device (34).

  • Patent number: 4557111
Abstract: A control system for the engagement and disengagement of exhaust gas turbochargers, in which the charging air pressure acts as control magnitude on a first control end face of a slide valve member against the force of a spring; in order to prevent the effects of the strong pressure fluctuation of the charging air pressure, which occur during engagement and disengagement of an exhaust gas turbocharger, on the shifting behavior of the control device, the slide valve member includes a second control end face, on which a second control pressure acts temporarily; the second control pressure and the first control pressure and the working medium for the control system may be formed by the charging air pressure so that no additional pressure sources are required; however, by the use of a spring biased valve the second control pressure may additionally be used for the filling limitation during starting and in the range of lower outputs of the piston driven internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4548182
Abstract: To avoid the lifting off and re-impacting of the flyweights (13) of a fuel injection timing device on their associated slide surfaces (14, 15) during the occurrence of a negative torque, it is proposed to transmit a part of this torque by an oil film. For this purpose, lubricating oil from the internal combustion engine flows through the timing device. At least one of the flyweights (13) cooperates as a transmission element (21) with a slide member (22) and with the two coupling parts (11, 12) whereby slide surfaces (23-28) with areal abutments are provided between the parts, between which an effective oil film can form.

  • Patent number: 4513724
Abstract: A fuel injection timer for internal combustion engines, wherein a shaft of a fuel injection pump is rotated relative to a drive shaft connected to the internal combustion engine as a function of the rotational speed of the engine. Oscillating bodies are disposed between first tracks connected to the drive shaft and second tracks connected with a shaft of the fuel injection pump. The first and second tracks are disposed in opposed pairs and the oscillating bodies each transmit a portion of the pump drive torque and move from an inner end position at a lower rotational speed of the engine to an outer end position at a maximum rotational speed of the engine under the influence of centrifugal forces and counteracting spring forces. A slope formed by the tracks affects the relative torque between the two shafts with the displacement curve of the injection time which corresponds to a favorable combustion cycle.

  • Patent number: 4417555
Abstract: A device for a fuel injection pump for a piston internal combustion engine which includes an adjustable regulator rod associated with the fuel injection pump. The regulator rod includes two regulator parts that may be moved axially toward each other. A spring is provided for acting upon the two regulator rod parts with one of the regulator rod parts being adapted to be stopped by a checking or stopping device. A power source that can be selectively cut in or out is provided so as to selectively remove a force effect of the spring on the two regulator rod parts.

  • Patent number: 4297979
Abstract: A split control rack, actuated by a control member, for fuel injection pumps arranged in a series and within a common housing. Pump pistons of the injection pumps are provided with oblique control edges and are adapted to be rotated by a control rack through serrations or guide levers in order to vary an amount of fuel conveyed. The fuel injection pumps are associated with cylinders of a reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine with a first group of cylinders being supplied with fuel in dependence upon a displacement of a first control rack section and a second group of cylinders being supplied with fuel in dependence upon a displacement of a second control rack section. The two control rack sections each consist of individual segments equipped with serrations or guide levers and joined together by rod-like elements with the rod-like element of one control rack section being guided in corresponding recesses or the like of the segments of the other control rack section.
