  • Publication number: 20030115741
Abstract: A method for swaging a suspension assembly to an actuator arm of a data storage device is disclosed. The method includes steps of inserting a deformable tubular stake into an aperture of an actuator arm and inserting an expandable swaging member into a channel of the tubular stake within the aperture of the actuator arm. Thereafter, the method includes the step of expanding the swaging member to deform the tubular stake to swage the tubular stake to the actuator arm of the data storage device.

  • Publication number: 20010027602
Abstract: A device for detaching a suspension assembly, adapted to support a head, staked to an actuator arm of an actuator block of a disc drive. The device includes an expandable device operable between an insertion dimension and a deswaging dimension having a flanged end defining a deswaging surface for forcing the stake from a hole of the actuator arm. In the insertion dimension, the device being sized for insertion through channels of tubular stakes for placement relative to an extended end of the stake. The device being expanded to the deswaging dimension, so that the deswaging surface of the flanged end aligns with an end surface of the stake for removing the stake from the actuator block.

  • Patent number: 6187106
Abstract: A contained instrument cleaner including a housing having an enclosed chamber and an opening sized to insert an instrument. A rigid member having an abrading surface is supported inside the chamber for cleaning debris from an instrument. The device includes a vacuum channel opened to the chamber and coupleable to a vacuum source for removing debris. A method for cleaning an instrument including the steps of inserting an instrument into an enclosed chamber and rubbing the instrument against an abrading member in the enclosed chamber for removing debris. A vacuum is supplied in the enclosed chamber for collecting debris.

  • Patent number: 6166886
Abstract: An actuator block for supporting suspension assemblies of a data storage system for read or write operations. The suspensions assemblies are coupled to an actuator arm of the actuator block via a mounting plate. The mounting plate is formed of a generally flat planar member coupled to a first end of the suspension assembly and defining upper and lower surfaces and sides. The mounting plate is coupled to the actuator arm along sides of the mounting plate to secure the suspension assemblies to the actuator block for operation without imparting a significant force to the suspension assembly along a load axis of the suspension assembly.

  • Patent number: 6085410
Abstract: A gripping tool for gripping a suspension assembly component of a disc drive includes a first planar gripping member connected to a second planar gripping member. The first and second planar gripping members each have respective first and second gripping surfaces that share common respective edges with respective first and second non-gripping surfaces. The first and second non-gripping surfaces having larger surface areas than the first and second gripping surfaces, respectively.
