Abstract: Technologies are generally described for detecting transcoding and adjusting visual content for optimal display on user devices. A content provider may transmit a sample of a visual content to a user device over a service provider network, and may monitor the quality of the sample that the user device receives. The service provider may apply transcoding to the sample during the transmission causing the quality of the sample to be degraded. The content provider may receive a sample as rendered from the user device and may compare the sample as rendered to the visual content to identify a transcoding applied by the service provider network. The content provider may the transcoding to the visual content and may transmit visual content that is transcoded for optimal display over the service provider network to the user device.

Abstract: Technologies are described for display of a merged image on a display. A processor may receive first data that relates to a first image of a real object and second data that relates to a second image of a virtual object. The second image, if displayed, may overlap, in an overlap region, at least part of the first image if the first image were displayed. The processor may identify an overlap part in the first data that corresponds to the overlap region, clip the overlap part from the first data to produce clipped data, and blur the clipped data to produce blurred data. The processor may subtract the clipped data from the blurred data to produce an additive blur component, add the additive blur component to the second data to produce merged data, and generate the merged image to be displayed on the display based on the merged data.

Abstract: Techniques described herein generally include methods for the testing and repair of a hardware accelerator image in a programmable logic circuit. In a processor chip that includes multiple programmable logic circuits, a hardware accelerator image programmed into a first programmable logic circuit is tested by programming a testing circuit with a duplicate hardware accelerator image and bringing the testing circuit to the same logic state as the first programmable logic circuit. Comparing outputs from the first programmable logic circuit and the testing circuit indicates the accuracy of the hardware accelerator image programmed into the first programmable logic circuit. The testing circuit may replace the first programmable logic circuit, or the testing circuit may be reprogrammed for testing other hardware accelerator images programmed into other programmable logic circuits of the processor chip.

In some examples, a conveyance system may be configured to adjust the orientations of various types of items before sorting. The conveyance system may include a computer vision system that determines whether the orientation of an item should be adjusted based on an item-feature hash table that relates item image features to item orientations or actuator signals. In other examples, the computer vision system may determine item image features associated with a particular item and perform an item-feature hash table lookup using the item image features to determine an item orientation or actuator action. The item-feature hash table may be separately trained, allowing the computer vision system to rapidly determine the appropriate item orientation or actuator action.

Abstract: Technologies for virtual machine placement within a data center are described herein. An example method may include determining a shared threat potential for a virtual machine based, at least in part, on a degree of co-location the virtual machine has with a current virtual machine operating on a physical machine, determining a workload threat potential for the virtual machine based, at least in part, on a level of advantage associated with placing the virtual machine on the physical machine, determining a threat potential for the virtual machine based, at least in part, on a combination of the shared threat potential and the workload threat potential, and placing the virtual machine on the physical machine based on the threat potential.

An example method may include receiving an incoming packets destined for a network, grouping, at a gateway, the incoming packets into groups, wherein a size of the groups is based on predetermined statistics, and wrapping the groups into packages of normalized size.

Abstract: Technologies are presented for providing a suggestion list presenting options for posting information related to viewed content on a communication network. In some examples, a user may desire to contribute to posted content by adding comments and other relevant information. A system may identify one or more key terms included in the viewed content, and may compare the key terms with content, such as files, emails, websites, images and media content, on computing devices and web browser histories associated with the user to identify information that may be related to the viewed content. If the system identifies information related to the key terms of the viewed content, the system may present the identified information associated with key terms to the user, and may enable selection from a posting suggestion list for automatically posting.

Abstract: Techniques described herein generally relate to a task management system for a chip multiprocessor having multiple processor cores. The task management system tracks the changing instruction set capabilities of each processor core and selects processor cores for use based on the tracked capabilities. In this way, a processor core with one or more failed processing elements can still be used effectively, since the processor core may be selected to process instruction sets that do not use the failed processing elements.

The flag may be associated with the memory location. An alert may be generated, based on the identification of the flag and the identification of the write request.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for suppressing discovery of mobile devices in a wireless ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) network, reducing the number of network transmissions by devices in the network and reducing network congestion and prolonging battery life. A mobile device may add supplementary information to introductory beacons transmitted by the device that indicate no response is necessary from other devices participating in the network except for a coordinator of the network. The mobile device may transmit a malformed introductory beacon that will be ignored by other devices in the network except for the coordinator. The coordinator of the wireless network may detect the mobile device moving through the network and transmit a suppression signal to other devices in the network causing the devices to ignore the introductory beacons transmitted by the mobile device.

In some examples, short motion-capture segments may be captured from user motion user interface devices and stored in a database. When a full-motion animation is desired, a start pose and a target pose may be provided, and a multiple-path, multiple-iteration search through the database may be used to assemble the full-motion animation. Motion retargeting may be used to further refine the assembled full-motion animation.

Abstract: Technologies related to personal assistant context building are generally described. In some examples, network service communications, such as network traffic resulting from the use of mobile applications or “apps” on a mobile device, may be captured, parsed, and included in personal assistant context databases for use in configuring automated personal assistant user interaction operations. In some examples, parsing services may be provided to parse forwarded network service communications and generate converted data for inclusion in personal assistant context databases.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for time-correlating administrative events within virtual machines of a datacenter across many users and/or deployments. In some examples, the correlation of administrative events enables the detection of confluences of repeated unusual events that may indicate a mass hacking attack, thereby allowing attacks kicking network signatures to be detected. Detection of the attack may also allow the repair of affected systems and the prevention of further hacking before the vulnerability has been analyzed or repaired.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for detection of incidental robot-human contact. In some examples, a robotic actuator movement may generate a feedback signal, such as a haptic signal, a proprioreceptive signal, an optical signal, and/or an infrared signal. A tremor detector may determine whether the feedback signal contains a tremor signal characteristic of a human, for example by determining whether frequency components in the feedback signal fall within particular frequency ranges. Upon determining that the feedback signal does contain a tremor signal characteristic of a human, the tremor detector may conclude that the robotic actuator has come into contact with a human, and may cause the actuator to halt its movement.

Abstract: In some examples, one or more processors of a computing system may receive telemetry data from a plurality of devices, user identifications (IDs) of a set of users of the plurality of the devices, and information from social media indicative of user sentiments toward the devices. The computing system may predict user experience related to the devices based at least in part on the telemetry data, the user IDs, and the information from the social media.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described to implement intrusion detection based on smart power background. In some examples, upon detection of an attempt to access a resource, a power line ambiance may be determined at a location of a device on which the attempt to access the resource is executed. The power line ambiance may be based on a connection of the device and/or one or more other devices at the location to a power line. The captured/received power profiles may identify device signatures enabling generation of a digest of the location. An intrusion detection system (IDS), may receive the digest of the location and compare the digest to previous digests associated with an authorized client of the resource to evaluate an authenticity of the attempt. If the authenticity of the attempt is suspicious, the IDS may elevate security by employing one or more verification levels and/or one or more authentication techniques.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for a system to process a collection of video recordings of a scene to extract and localize audio sources for the audio data. According to some examples, video recordings captured by mobile devices from different perspectives may be uploaded to a central database. Video segments capturing an overlapping portion of the scene at an overlapping time may be identified, and a relative location of each of the video capturing devices may be determined. Audio data for the video segments may be indexed with a sub-frame time reference and relative locations as a function of overlapping time. Using the indices that include the sub-frame time references and relative locations, audio sources for the audio data may be extracted and localized. The extracted audio sources may be transcribed and indexed to enable searching, and may be added back to each video recording as a separate audio channel.
