  • Publication number: 20120081753
Abstract: In one embodiment, printing, on a first side of a media, of a first plurality of plots and a plurality of associated fiducials is caused. For each of a second plurality of plots, using data from a sensor, a distance to one of the plurality of associated fiducials is measured to discern a reference for printing that plot on a second side of the media. Printing of the second plurality of plots on the second side is caused so that each of the second plurality of plots is substantially in registration with one of the first plurality of plots.

  • Patent number: 8048824
Abstract: A system of printing borderless images on printable media includes at least one sheet of printable media including an imaging surface and a non-imaging surface. The system further includes a removable extension strip having a front surface with an adhesive zone and a non-adhesive zone, a non-adhesive back surface, and a straight line of demarkation between the adhesive and non-adhesive zones. The adhesive zone is configured to removably adhere to the non-imaging surface, and the straight line of demarkation is configured as a placement guide for adhering the adhesive zone of the extension strip to the media. An associated method includes adhering an adhesive portion of removable extension strip to a non-imaging surface proximate a trailing edge of the media, and ink-jet printing an image on an imaging surface of the media using an ink-jet printer. The strip is used by rollers in the printer to advance the media.

  • Patent number: 7946700
Abstract: A wet ink printer uses a heated printhead. A platen guides and supports the print medium during printing, and has a plurality of raised ribs. In an example, the ribs extend on the base generally along the advance direction of the print media. Each rib comprises a discontinuous series of rib portions, and wherein between each adjacent pair of ribs is provided a spacing to allow deformation of the print medium towards the platen base.

  • Publication number: 20110036255
Abstract: A printing device and method for printing a latex ink on a printing medium is disclosed. The printing device comprises a heating stage for heating the medium at least during printing the latex ink on said medium, a further heating stage for curing the latex ink on the medium and a controller arrangement for individually controlling the heating stage and the further heating stage, whereby the controller arrangement is arranged to reduce the heat output of the heating stage during a non-printing mode of the printing device and to reduce the heat output of the further heating stage during a non-curing mode of the printing device.

  • Patent number: 7672028
Abstract: A printer is configured to print a color target that associates colors to which humans are most sensitive to color variance with areas of the color target within which color measurement is less prone to meassurement error. The printer then prints the color target according to the association. In an optional impemementation, measurements of like color elements within the target are average. In a further optional impementation, the averaging is performed using weighted values, wherein the weighting is based on color measurement accuracy within an area within the color target wherein each measured element is located. In a still further implementation, a color look-up table is generated according to measurements made of the color target.

  • Patent number: 7543927
Abstract: In printing apparatus, when printing near the end of a print media with a printhead having nozzles, a controller causes a print drive to produce a large print media advance movement together with the use of a different group of nozzles from that used for the rest of the print media. This avoids printing art effects as the print media leaves a pinch in a media feed. In one embodiment the number of nozzles used for printing in the end region is reduced, and the centre of the group of nozzles is simultaneously shifted in the direction of print media advance. The size of the print media advance is also changed in the end region. The printing mask used is also changed.

  • Patent number: 7334883
Abstract: A printer having an ink delivery system with an air purge to ambient. A vent sealing material is disposed in an air vent. The vent sealing material is pervious to air when dry and impervious to air when wetted by the ink. Also, when wet, the vent sealing material forms a seal in the air vent so that the ink delivery system is sealed in an air free and liquid tight manner.
