  • Patent number: 4357384
Abstract: A composite structure is disclosed, wherein the structure includes an interior substrate or facing, a layer of rigid insulation, and an exterior facing or cementitious layer, with an adhesive adhering such insulation at least to the interior substrate or facing, with an exterior waterproofing layer of the dried residue of a latex polymer-coating composition being adhered to the exterior of the composite structure or panel. The waterproofing coating layer contains a film-forming polymer which is an acrylic polymer or a vinyl polymer, and has a Mar Elasticity Value of at least 1.The composite structure or insulating structural panel of the present invention may be used as the wall or the roof of a building.

  • Patent number: 4351912
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a trowelable, lightweight, synthetic stucco composition containing a crushable, lightweight aggregate, and specifically to the protection of the lightweight aggregate from substantial particle size reduction during troweling application by providing in the composition a protective amount of a hard, non-crushable aggregate having a protective particle size. The hard aggregate is strong enough to resist the troweling step without crushing, and serves to keep the trowel a spaced distance away from the substrate upon which the stucco composition is applied, to thereby substantially prevent crushable, lightweight aggregates of similar or smaller particle size from crushing, and to limit the crushing of crushable, lightweight aggregates having a larger particle size.

  • Patent number: 4312908
Abstract: An insulating structural panel comprising a layer of rigid insulation of at least one inch thickness sandwiched between two adhered facings of at least 1/16 inch thickness wherein at least one of said facings is adhered to the insulation by an adhesive which is a dried residue of a latex polymer rich coating of not less than 2-4 mils thick and containing at least 80% by weight of a film-forming polymer selected from the group consisting of acrylic polymers and vinyl polymers having a Mar Elasticity Value of at least 1 and a wet and dry adhesion to maintain adhesion to said facing under normal atmospheric conditions.

  • Patent number: 4256804
Abstract: A waterproof elastic coating composition, and coated substrates, having a dried coating of such composition, is disclosed, wherein the coating is polymer rich, has a pigment volume concentration no greater than 10, an ultimate elongation of at least 250% when measured in the form of a film 7 mils thick and at 90% RH and 78.degree. F., a visco-elastic flow such as to permit a 7 mils thick film which is firmly adhered to a surface to withstand, even over extended periods of time, and without loss of its waterproofing properties, the development of a crack of up to 1 mm. in width in said surface, and a dry and wet adhesion to maintain the film adhesion to said substrate under normal atmospheric conditions. Coatings produced from the composition of the present invention waterproof roofs and walls when applied thereto, to form coatings which are extremely durable and long lasting, and which are quite economical in comparison to the waterproofing coatings of the prior art.
