  • Patent number: 5389152
Abstract: A porous preform is densified by heating while emersed in a precursor liquid. Heating is achieved by passing a current through the preform or by an induction coil immersed in the liquid. Ways to control the densification process are also described.

  • Patent number: 4613055
Abstract: A cap cover for a truck fuel tank filler pipe comprises a base ring secured by a hinge to an annular cover. A pair of cooperating lugs secured to the base ring and to the annular cover, respectively, are provided with aligned holes therein for passage of a padlock which locks the cap cover thereby preventing theft of fuel from the tank.

  • Patent number: 4373356
Abstract: A lubrication system for use in a rotary compressor wherein the pressurized refrigerant fluid is passed through a precooler and returned to the compressor housing before passing through the discharge line to the refrigeration system. Oil entrained in the compressed precooled refrigerant is passed in heat transfer association with the rear head of the compressor to evaporate therefrom refrigerant vapor which may be entrained in the oil, permitting the oil to be returned to the lubrication sump after such removal for improved lubrication of the compressor. The rear head defines a lubricating oil flow path which, in the illustrated embodiment, opens upwardly from the rear head, permitting the lubricating oil to flow over the rear head for improved heat transfer association therewith in effecting the desired removal of entrained refrigerant vapor therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4199309
Abstract: A compressor discharge valve assembly utilizing a cylindrical cavity in which is provided a discharge flow control valve and a valve stop for limiting the opening movement of the valve during operation of the compressor. The discharge valve chamber defines a cylindrical portion into which opens an outlet from the compression chamber. A cylindrical recess is provided in the wall of the discharge valve chamber for receiving a securing portion of the valve stop. The valve stop may further include a spacer for maintaining an arcuate backup portion thereof in inwardly spaced relationship to the valve. The valve is biased to engage the discharge valve chamber wall adjacent the outlet passage. The valve may be defined by a resilient arcuate member secured at one end to the valve stop whereby the valve is cantilevered from the securing means to extend over an arc of approximately 180.degree. to have a distal portion disposed in closing relationship to the outlet passage.

  • Patent number: 4179316
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for surface hardening metals by means of a concentrated beam of electrons. The electron beam is directed and focused to a desired spot on the surface of the said workpiece and is caused to move incrementally from one to the next of a predetermined pattern of points on the work surface. The beam is directed to each point in turn for a predetermined length of time and moved from point to point at a relatively rapid rate. The pattern is projected over the desired surface of the work a predetermined number of times so that the material to be heat treated is brought above the transformation temperature and maintained below the melting temperature by close control of the electron beam parameters. A programmable computer retains in its memory a number of predetermined displacement patterns for the electron beam and controls all the electron beam gun parameters and all machine functions.

  • Patent number: 4088428
Abstract: A rotary compressor having a discharge check valve and retainer assembly in which the valve is a reed type valve mounted on the retainer and the retainer having spaced locating projections for positioning the assembly in a valve chamber. The retainer has arcuate end portions that when undistorted have a curvature greater than the corresponding end portions of the chamber so that the retainer and thus the valve is locked securely in position in the chamber by the distortion of the end portions and the projections.

  • Patent number: 4049400
Abstract: This specification discloses an air purifying apparatus having an ozone generator and an electrostatic filter. The air purifier includes two charge carrying plates abutting opposite sides of a planar dielectric layer along the entire width of each plate, one of the plates being relatively narrow in width in comparison to the other plate. The plate configuration prolongs the life of the dielectric layer and permits easy cleaning of the air purifier.

  • Patent number: 3963215
Abstract: A hand tool having a leverage handle from which a nail pulling foot portion extends laterally from one end thereof and has a bore formed therein from its extreme lateral end toward the handle for receiving a portion of a nail, the balance of which is embedded below the surface of a member from which it is to be extracted by movement of the handle in a direction to first bend such nail into a snubbing relation to the bore in which it is lodged, the foot portion of the tool having an arcuate contoured face rockable upon the surface from which the nail is to be extracted. The tool further having slits formed in that face thereof opposite the arcuate surface into communication with the bore formed in the foot portion for register and receipt of the head of a flat headed nail during the bending and pulling operation of the tool. This feature also provides a safety feature by preventing the nail from flipping out of the bore when the nail comes loose from the surface out of which it is pulled.
