  • Patent number: 7738140
Abstract: Provided is a method for enabling accurate and consistent imaging of selected colors within a document for various printing device configurations utilizing an automated spot color editor. The method includes determining appropriate target values for a selected color within a print job. The automated spot color editor modifies or adjusts the selected color by selecting a quality level, in the form of a color difference metric, and a maximum number of iterations, which is the maximum number of times the automated spot color editor is operated to calculate a CMYK color formula. Sample patch(es) are printed and analyzed for the selected target value and a CMYK color formula based on the color composition of the sample patch is calculated. The CMYK color formula is inserted into a spot color editing table. Through a graphical user interface, an operator may review the color formula for acceptance.

  • Patent number: 7639359
Abstract: A biosensor utilizing bio-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles is provided. An external magnetic field is applied to a suspension of magnetic nanoparticles. A linearly polarized incident light is applied to the suspension of magnetic nanoparticles. A photocurrent from polarized light scattering by bio-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles in liquid is detected. The magneto-optic sensing technique is applied to a micro-fluidic channel for rapid and sensitive detection with a small sample amount, and subsequent magnetic separation for detoxification. This technique is used for the detection of Brownian relaxation with time sweep as well as frequency sweep. The magneto-optical sensor enables rapidly detecting changes in local dynamic properties of the magnetic nanoparticles in liquids and magnetic modulation of ferromagnetic particles in liquid provides increased signal sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 7042036
Abstract: A method for implementing miniaturization of magnetic random access memory (MRAM) and a magnetic memory using single domain switching by direct current are provided. The magnetic memory preferably includes a half-circle or U-shaped architecture with an exchange biasing pad, such as a FeMn exchange biasing pad that effectively generates a head-to-head magnetization configuration. The magnetic memory also includes nanometer scale notches in order to minimize magnetostatic interaction between a single domain memory element and the spin current sources and to effectively trap the magnetic domain wall. Reading the bit can be carried out by anisotropic magnetoresistance, or by other means of determining the magnetization orientation through resistance measurements, such as a spin valve or a magnetic tunneling junction.

  • Publication number: 20040006394
Abstract: A prosthesis for repairing a knee is made with an insert sandwiched between a femoral component and a tibial tray. The parts are shaped so that both the femoral component and the tibial tray will slidingly interface with the insert during motion of the knee. At regions where the femoral component interfaces with the insert during extension and during an initial range of flexion of the knee, the femoral component's radius of curvature (R1) for flexion rotation is larger than its radius of curvature (R3) for varus/valgus rotation. In a preferred embodiment, the surface of the tibial tray is convex and spherically curved, and the insert is free to move in both the posterior-anterior direction and the medial-lateral direction with respect to the tibial tray.

  • Patent number: 5434368
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling use of electrically powered equipment includes an enclosure in which there is mounted an electrical connector receptacle which may be connected to a source of electrical power via its own power cable or plug blades. The enclosure is proportioned to receive the end of the electrical power cable or plug leads of one or more electrical power connectors of independently operated electrical devices. Plugging these devices into the electrical connector receptacle provides a direct, controlled connection to the power source. A locking device is provided on the exterior of the enclosure. This locking device could employ a variety of keyed and keyless lock designs. Disengaging the locking device unlocks the top enclosing lid of the enclosure to expose an electrical switch and a plurality of pins. When the electrical apparatus uses plug blades an attachment screw is also exposed to secure the electrical apparatus to the power source.

  • Patent number: 5212098
Abstract: Bromide ion content in a photographic developer is an important variable to be controlled by photoprocessors who process color reversal material or color negative film. The bromide content of such developers can be determined by titration with silver ion, using tetraiodophenolsulfonephthalein (TIPS) or other suitable adsorption indicator, after the developer has been acidified with an organic acid such as citric acid. This titrimetric method can be adapted for use in a test kit which is designed for use by photoprocessors who otherwise lack the chemical sophistication to readily conduct analysis by titration, or who have the necessary sophistication, but wish to gain the benefits and convenience available from use of a test kit specifically designed for conducting the analytical method.
