  • Patent number: 12140535
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods for rapidly evaluating light transmission through coatings including paints, primers, thin films, surfacing films, laminates and the like are disclosed. The system includes a light source for transmitting light through a coating sample. A sample holder holds the coating sample in a position to receive the incident light. A spectrometer measures an amount of the transmitted light that passes through the coating sample. Optionally, one or more optical filters may be used to condition any transmitted light that passes through the coating sample to reduce the intensity of the light outside of wavelengths of interest. An opaque cover encloses the spectrometer, the one or more optional optical filters, and at least part of the sample holder to prevent light other than the transmitted light from the light source from entering the spectrometer such that any transmitted light passing through the coating sample can be accurately evaluated.

  • Patent number: 8684224
Abstract: A cylindrical tubular canister package has a body and ends. A tear-away strip is formed in the body by a pair of spaced partial cuts on the outside of the body. A thin strip of tear tape is secured to the inside of the body underlying and extending along the tear-away strip. A tab is formed at one end of the tear away strip. The canister package is opened by grasping the tab and pulling away from the canister body, which causes the tear-away strip to be severed from the body to open up the canister. The strip may extend axially, circumferentially, spirally, or otherwise along the canister body.

  • Publication number: 20080171670
Abstract: The invention provides a fluid loss control additive for oleaginous liquids and oleaginous wellbore fluids containing the additive. The additive is the reaction product of a tannin compound, a polyamidoamine, a commercial lecithin, and an acid. The preferred tannins are derived from quebracho and wattle trees. The preferred acid is sulfuric acid. The preferred polyamidoamine is a long-chain fatty alkyl partial amide which is the reaction product of a polyalkylenepolyamine and a fatty acid containing from about 8 to about 30 carbon atoms, most preferably tall oil fatty acids, wherein at least one of the amino groups of the polyalkylenepolyamine is not amidated. The commercial lecithin contains from about 30% to about 50% of the vegetable oil from which the lecithin is concentrated, preferably soybean oil, and is present in the additive in an amount from about 1% to about 3% by weight, based on the weight of the tannin.
