  • Patent number: 7846160
Abstract: A medical device and procedure is described for sterilizing a female. A two-part procedure includes an immediate sterilization part and a permanent sterilization part. The immediate sterilization part provides immediate sterility that endures at least until the permanent effects of a tubal occlusion procedure provide permanent sterility.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 21, 2006

    Assignee: Cytyc Corporation
Inventors: F. Mark Payne, Russel M. Sampson
  • Publication number: 20080177127
Abstract: A brachytherapy treatment device includes at least one tubular insertion member, an expandable member, and means for deflecting the at least one tubular insertion member. The tubular insertion member has a longitudinal axis and proximal and distal ends. The expandable member is disposed on and surrounding the distal end of the tubular insertion member. The distal end of the at least one deflected tubular insertion member within the first expandable member is offset from the longitudinal axis when deflected. The at least one deflected tubular insertion member is configured to receive a radiation source to position a radiation source offset with regard to the longitudinal axis to form an asymmetric radiation dosing profile. Additional brachytherapy treatment devices and methods for forming an asymmetric radiation dosing profile are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080167664
Abstract: A device for verifying occlusion of the fallopian tube in a female subject includes an elongate gas delivery member having a lumen disposed therein, the elongate gas delivery member adapted for sealing engagement with the subject's uterus. The device includes a pressurized insufflation gas source coupled to the elongate gas delivery member, the insufflation gas source being in communication with the lumen of the elongate gas delivery member. The insufflation gas may includes for example, carbon dioxide. In one aspect, the device includes a pressure sensor or gauge to measure intra-uterine pressure to verify occlusion of the fallopian tube(s). In another aspect, the flow rate of insufflation gas into the uterus may be measured using a flow meter to verify occlusion of the fallopian tube(s).
