  • Patent number: 11480404
Abstract: A disrupter cannon includes a barrel for launching a projectile. An insert may be used to launch a projectile of a smaller diameter than the projectile launched through the barrel of the disrupter cannon. An insert includes a bore therethrough, a breech-end portion, and a muzzle-end portion. The breech-end portion includes a channel. An O-ring is positioned in the channel of the breech-end portion. The muzzle-end portion includes one or more channels. A respective O-ring is positioned in each channel of the muzzle-end portion. While the insert is positioned in the barrel, the O-rings are configured to form a seal between an outer surface of the insert and an inner surface of the barrel. The projectile with a smaller diameter is launched through the bore of the insert.

  • Patent number: 10760888
Abstract: A disrupter for launching a combination of a liquid and a projectile toward an explosive device to strike the explosive device to disable the explosive device. The position of the projectile in the barrel of the disrupter determines an exit velocity of the liquid and the projectile from the barrel of the disrupter.

  • Patent number: 10126106
Abstract: A coupler for coupling shock tube to a disrupter cannon so that the shock tube automatically decouples from the coupler and thereby from the disrupter cannon after the disrupter cannon has been fired to launch a projectile. The coupler retains the shock tube with a force that is greater than the force provided by the shock tube when it is ignited, but is less than the force of a reflected wave of pressure out of the disrupter cannon after the disrupter cannon has been fired.

  • Patent number: 10071810
Abstract: Movement of a disrupter cannon is arrested by a parachute. The parachute is coupled (e.g., tethered) to the disrupter cannon. Prior to firing the cannon, the parachute is held in a retainer. Movement of the disrupter cannon in response to firing pulls the parachute from the retainer. The parachute deploys and arrests the movement of the disrupter cannon. The retainer protects the parachute prior to firing the disrupter cannon. The retainer may hold the parachute during transport.

  • Patent number: 10054388
Abstract: A disrupter cannon is used to disrupt or destroy explosive devices. A disrupter cannon may launch a liquid (e.g., water) toward an explosive device to disrupt the explosive device. The liquid may be launched through a nozzle. The nozzle may include passages that spread the liquid to for a column of liquid with a cross-section. A nozzle that provides a column of liquid with an oval cross-section may be more effective at disrupting certain types of explosive devices.

  • Patent number: 9488429
Abstract: A recovery system for recovering a disrupter after the disrupter has been fired to launch a projectile toward an explosive device. The recovery system includes a retainer that couples to the barrel of the disrupter, a slide that couples to the retainer, and a base that couples to a support. The slide removeably couples to the base. Responsive to a recoil force of firing the disrupter, the slide decouples from the base, and the disrupter, the slide, and the retainer moves away from the base and the support in a direction opposite a direction of travel of the projectile thereby completely separating the slide from the base. The disrupter may be recovered after separation from the base. The recovery system may further include a plunger that extends while the slide is removeably coupled to the base to retain the slide coupled to the base prior to firing the disrupter. Responsive to firing the disrupter, the plunger retracts to facilitate decoupling of the slide from the base.

  • Patent number: 9453713
Abstract: Systems and methods for preparing a cartridge and a projectile for use in a disrupter to launch the projectile toward an explosive device to disable the explosive device. The cartridge may be selected from a group of cartridges and the projectile may be selected from a group of projectiles in accordance with the type of explosive device, the projectile selected, or other considerations for attempting to disable the explosive device. The cartridge and projectile are manually coupled by an operator of the disrupter for use in the disrupter.

  • Patent number: 9322625
Abstract: A water-resistant cartridge includes a pyrotechnic that when ignited launches water from a disrupter cannon to disable and/or destroy an explosive device. The cartridge includes a seal that seals between an outer surface of the cartridge and an inner surface of the barrel to limit water that escapes from the barrel rearward of the seal and cartridge. Prior to launching the water, the water in the barrel surrounds the cartridge forward of the seal. As the pyrotechnic burns and provides an expansive force on the sides of the cartridge, the water between the sides of the cartridge and the inner surface of the barrel resists the expansive force to help retain the shape of the cartridge, so that it may be more easily removed from the barrel after firing. The force provided by the pyrotechnic blows a cover of the cartridge off to provide the force directly to the water to launch the water.

  • Patent number: 8915004
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for operating a firing pin. A first force attracts the firing pin to the pre-firing position. A second force overcomes the first force to move the firing pin to a firing position. A magnitude of the first force on the firing pin is inversely proportional to the distance the firing pin moves away from the pre-firing position.
