  • Publication number: 20230019066
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a process for producing a surface-treated and surface-finished sheet steel. A sheet steel having a zinc-based coating is provided, wherein zinc grains are distributed within the coating. The surface-treated sheet steel are skin-pass rolled to form embossed regions and unembossed regions on the surface of the sheet steel provided with a zinc-based coating. Skin-pass rolling is performed with a degree of skin-pass greater than 1% in such a way that due to the force exerted by the skin-pass rolling the zinc grains in the embossed region are altered in dimension relative to the zinc grains in the unembossed region.

  • Publication number: 20230002877
Abstract: A method for production of a flat steel product including at least the following steps, completed in a continuous process: providing a flat steel product, wherein a protective metal layer of Zn, a Zn—Al alloy, a Zn—Mg alloy or a Zn—Mg—Al alloy is applied to at least one side by hot dip coating; at least partly removing a native oxide layer present on the surface of the protective metal layer by wetting this surface with an acidic solution of sulfuric acid, sulfurous acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, phosphonic acid, nitric acid, formic acid, oxalic acid, acetic acid, citric acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, nitrous acid or hydrofluoric acid; activating the surface of the protective metal layer by applying an aqueous activation solution to the surface of the protective metal layer; and phosphating the activated surface of the protective metal layer by applying an aqueous phosphating solution to the activated surface.

  • Patent number: 10480080
Abstract: A method of activating a metal surface, such as a galvanized steel sheet, before a phosphating process, may involve bringing the metal surface into contact with an activating bath containing activating particles, which may be based on phosphate and/or titanium, dispersed in water. To alleviate or even eliminate the problems of poor adhesion of surface coatings to preferably electrolytically galvanized, phosphated metal strip, an additive that suppresses or at least slows agglomeration of the activating particles may be added to the activating bath. In some examples, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and/or sodium stearate may be added. Further, the particle size distribution of the activating particles present in the activating bath may be determined and the activating bath may be replaced or taken out of operation as a function of the particle size distribution of the activating particles.
