Patent number: 11519749Abstract: There is provided a handheld device for navigating about a selected geographical zone. The handheld navigating device includes a processor circuit with a screen on which an image representative of a geographical map of a selected geographical zone is displayed. The geographical map of the selected geographical zone includes representations corresponding respectively with points of interest having locations and categories. The geographical map is configured so that (a) at least part of the representations corresponding respectively with points of interest are clustered within at least one viewing area, (b) the at least one viewing area is distinguished by a visible pattern having both a selected appearance and a first visual state that do not reveal the locations and the categories of the points of interest. The handheld navigation device includes a geographical position locating subsystem for determining when a selected relationship exists between the user and one or more of the points of interest.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2020Date of Patent: December 6, 2022Inventors: Sruthi Viswanathan, Cécile Boulard, Maria Antonietta Grasso, Fabien Guillot

Publication number: 20180203921Abstract: An apparatus and a method increase data exploration and facilitate changing between exploratory and iterative searching. A virtual widget is movable on a display device in response to detected user gestures. Graphic objects are displayed on the display device, representing respective documents in a search document collection. The virtual widget is populated with a first query term, which can be used for an iterative search. Semantic terms that are predicted to be semantically related to it are identified, based on a computed similarity between multidimensional representations of terms in a training document collection. The multidimensional representations are output by a semantic model which takes into account context of the respective terms in the training document collection. A user selects one of the set of semantic terms for generating a semantic query for an exploratory search. Documents in the search document collection that are responsive to the semantic query are identified.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2017Publication date: July 19, 2018Applicant: Xerox CorporationInventors: Caroline Privault, Ngoc Phuoc An Vo, Fabien Guillot

Publication number: 20170124762Abstract: A Virtual Reality (VR) method and system for text manipulation. According to an exemplary embodiment, a VR method displays and provides a user with interaction with displayed documents in a Virtual Environment (VE), the VE including a VR head-mounted display and one or more gesture sensors. Text manipulation is performed using natural human body interactions with the VR system.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2015Publication date: May 4, 2017Applicant: Xerox CorporationInventors: Caroline Privault, Fabien Guillot, Christophe Legras, Ioan Calapodescu

Patent number: 9467583Abstract: A method for generating procedures includes receiving a log of a troubleshooting session. The log includes device data including a sequence of detected operations performed on the device causing respective components to change states. Steps of a candidate operating procedure are generated, based on the log, each corresponding to one of the detected operations. Missing steps may be identified, based on state charts and/or stored operability constraints for the device. The candidate operating procedure is compared with existing operating procedures stored in a knowledge base for the device to identify at least one existing operating procedure which includes steps which match at least some of the steps of the candidate operating procedure and, based on the identified at least one existing operating procedure, generating a textual description based on the textual description of the matching steps. The candidate procedure can be presented to an editor for validation.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2014Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: XEROX CORPORATIONInventors: Frederic Roulland, Stefania Castellani, Fabien Guillot, Yves Hoppenot

Publication number: 20150370472Abstract: A processing method includes, associating each of a plurality of hand gestures that are detectable with a three-dimensional sensor with a respective one of a plurality of item processing tasks in memory. A plurality of graphic objects is displayed on a touch-sensitive display device, each graphic object being associated with a respective item. With the three-dimensional sensor, a hand gesture is detected. The respective one of the item processing tasks that is associated with the detected hand gesture is identified and the identified one of the item processing tasks is implemented on the displayed graphic objects, comprising causing at least a subset of the displayed graphic objects to respond on the display device based on attributes of the respective items. Item processing tasks may also be implemented through predefined touch gestures.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2014Publication date: December 24, 2015Inventors: Caroline Privault, Fabien Guillot, Christophe Legras

Patent number: 8860763Abstract: A method of configuring a widget and a tactile user interface which displays the widget are disclosed which enable menu-setting operations with minimal touch gestures and occupation of screen space. The interface includes a touch sensitive display device and memory which stores instructions for displaying the widget and a set of graphic objects together on the display device. The widget has two or more virtual sides, each of the sides being associated with a respective functionality. The widget is flipped, in response to a recognized touch gesture, from a first of the sides to a second of the sides, whereby the functionality of the widget is changed. The graphic objects are associated, in memory, with respective items having attributes. The graphic objects exhibit a response to the widget functionality of a currently displayed one of the sides of the widget based on the attributes of the respective items.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2012Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Caroline Privault, Fabien Guillot, Yves Hoppenot, Christophe Legras

Publication number: 20140237359Abstract: A system and method are provided for dynamically generating a query using touch gestures. A virtual magnet is movable on a display device of a tactile user interface in response to touch. A user selects one of a set of text documents for review, which is displayed on the display. The system is configured for recognizing a highlighting gesture on the tactile user interface over the displayed document as a selection of a text fragment from the document text. The virtual magnet is populated with a query which is based on the text fragment selected with the highlighting gesture. The populated magnet is able to cause a subset of displayed graphic objects to exhibit a response to the magnet as a function of the query and the text content of the respective documents which the objects represent and/or to cause responsive instances in a text document to be displayed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2014Publication date: August 21, 2014Applicant: Xerox CorporationInventors: Caroline Privault, Jacki O'Neill, Yves Hoppenot, Fabien Guillot
