  • Publication number: 20200285499
Abstract: According to one or more embodiments of the present invention, a computer implemented method includes receiving a request from a requestor, to access a page of memory. The requestor is either a secure entity of a computer system or a secure interface control of the computer system. The request is tagged as a secure request from a secure domain of the computer system. It is verified that the request is making an access to a page that is both registered as secure and registered as belonging to the secure domain. The requestor is provided access to the page based at least in part on the page being registered as secure and as belonging to the secure domain. The requestor is prevented from accessing the page, based on one or both of the page not being registered as secure, and the page not being registered as belonging to the secure domain.

  • Publication number: 20200285495
Abstract: According to one or more embodiments of the present invention, a computer implemented method includes initiating, by a non-secure entity that is executing on a host server, a secure entity, the non-secure entity prohibited from directly accessing any data of the secure entity. The method further includes injecting, into the secure entity, an interrupt that is generated by the host server. The injecting includes adding, by the non-secure entity, information about the interrupt into a portion of non-secure storage, which is then associated with the secure entity. The injecting further includes injecting, by a secure interface control of the host server, the interrupt into the secure entity.

  • Patent number: 10740106
Abstract: A transactional memory system determines whether a hardware transaction can be salvaged. A processor of the transactional memory system begins execution of a transaction in a transactional memory environment. Based on detection that an amount of available resource for transactional execution is below a predetermined threshold level, the processor determines whether the transaction can be salvaged. Based on determining that the transaction can not be salvaged, the processor aborts the transaction. Based on determining the transaction can be salvaged, the processor performs a salvage operation, wherein the salvage operation comprises one or more of: determining that the transaction can be brought to a stable state without exceeding the amount of available resource for transactional execution, and bringing the transaction to a stable state; and determining that a resource can be made available, and making the resource available.

  • Patent number: 10585697
Abstract: A transactional memory system dynamically predicts the resource requirements of hardware transactions. A processor of the transactional memory system predicts resource requirements of a first hardware transaction to be executed based on a resource hint, a type of hardware transaction that is associated with a given hardware transaction, and a previous execution of a prior hardware transaction that is associated with the type of hardware transaction. The processor allocates resources for the given hardware transaction based on the predicted resource requirements. The processor initiates execution of the first hardware transaction using at least a portion of the allocated resources.

  • Publication number: 20200065138
Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes identifying two or more memory locations and referencing, by a memory access request, the two or more memory locations. The memory access request is a single action pursuant to a memory protocol. The computer-implemented method further includes sending the memory access request from one or more processors to a node and fetching, by the node, data content from each of the two or more memory locations. The computer-implemented method further includes packaging, by the node, the data content from each of the two or more memory locations into a memory package, and returning the memory package from the node to the one or more processors. A corresponding computer program product and computer system are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10572392
Abstract: Increasing the scope of local purges of structures associated with address translation. A hardware thread of a physical core of a machine configuration issues a purge request. A determination is made as to whether the purge request is a local request. Based on the purge request being a local request, entries of a structure associated with address translation are purged on at least multiple hardware threads of a set of hardware threads of the the machine configuration.

  • Patent number: 10565003
Abstract: When executed, a transaction-hint instruction specifies a transaction-count-to-completion (CTC) value for a transaction. The CTC value indicates how far a transaction is from completion. The CTC may be a number of instructions to completion or an amount of time to completion. The CTC value is adjusted as the transaction progresses. When a disruptive event associated with inducing transactional aborts, such as an interrupt or a conflicting memory access, is identified while processing the transaction, processing of the disruptive event is deferred if the adjusted CTC value satisfies deferral criteria. If the adjusted CTC value does not satisfy deferral criteria, the transaction is aborted and the disruptive event is processed.

  • Patent number: 10540183
Abstract: As disclosed herein a method, executed by a processor, for accelerated instruction execution includes retrieving an execute instruction including a register reference and a reference to a target instruction, retrieving the target instruction, decoding the execute instruction using an instruction pipeline, decoding the target instruction using the instruction pipeline, associating the register reference to the target instruction, and executing the target instruction using the register reference as a source operand modifier. The instruction pipeline is configured such that it allows the target instruction to continue processing without waiting for the register reference to be resolved. The contents of the referenced register may be retrieved in a later stage of the instruction pipeline, and the target instruction may be modified and executed. An apparatus corresponding to the described method is also disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 10489209
Abstract: Resources in a computing environment are managed, for example, by a hardware controller controlling dispatching of resources from one or more pools of resources to be used in execution of threads. The controlling includes conditionally dispatching resources from the pool(s) to one or more low-priority threads of the computing environment based on current usage of resources in the pool(s) relative to an associated resource usage threshold. The management further includes monitoring resource dispatching from the pool(s) to one or more high-priority threads of the computing environment, and based on the monitoring, dynamically adjusting the resource usage threshold used in the conditionally dispatching of resources from the pool(s) to the low-priority thread(s).

  • Publication number: 20190272192
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product are provided for prioritizing transactions. A processor in a computing environment initiates the execution of a transaction. The processor includes a transactional core, and the execution of the transaction is performed by the transactional core. The processor obtains concurrent with the execution of the transaction by the transactional core, an indication of a conflict between the transaction and at least one other transaction being executed by an additional core in the computing environment. The processor determines if the transactional core includes an indicator and based on determining that the transactional core includes an indicator, the processor ignores the conflict and utilizing the transactional core to complete executing the transaction.

  • Patent number: 10346197
Abstract: In a transactional memory environment, a computer-implemented method includes a first processor initiating a first transaction and encountering an abort condition. Responsive to the abort condition, an abort other request is communicated between the first processor and one or more additional processors. The one or more additional processors receive the abort other request, and, responsive to the abort other request, the one or more additional processors selectively abort a current second transaction based on the abort other request and an abort other condition. Optionally, the transactional memory environment supports a transaction category scheme, whereby each transaction has associated therewith a category identifier. In such embodiments, the abort other request includes an abort category identifier, and the abort other condition includes aborting the current second transaction if the abort category identifier matches the category identifier for the current second transaction.
