  • Patent number: 9540921
Abstract: A method for producing hydrocarbons in a subterranean well useful for observing properties of one or more subterranean zones, includes the steps of: (a) installing a lower straddle packer in a vertical well section below a junction with a lateral well section; (b) installing an upper straddle packer in a vertical well section above the junction with the lateral well section; (c) conveying hydrocarbons from the lateral well section to the surface with a tubing; (d) observing pressure information in at least one zone with a pressure gauge located in the vertical well section below the lower straddle packer; and (e) obtaining information in the at least one zone with logging equipment run through the tubing. A sidetrack window may be installed in the tubing between the lower straddle packer and the upper straddle packer for providing access to the lateral well section.

  • Patent number: 9394761
Abstract: A device for controlling fluid flow from a subsurface fluid reservoir into a production tubing siring includes a tubular member defining a central bore. At least one nozzle extends through a side wall of the tubular member. A popper is moveable between an open position where fluids can flow into the central bore through the nozzle, and a closed position where the nozzle is fluidly sealed. A circumferential external bead profile is located on the stem and a circumferential groove is located in the nozzle for mating with the head profile of the stem and maintaining the popper in a closed position. The device can also have a shear member disposed between the stem of the popper and an inner surface of the nozzle for supporting the popper in an open position before the popper is moved to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 9268057
Abstract: Apparatus and computer readable media for managing an intelligent field, are provided. An exemplary apparatus can include hydrocarbon well instruments, a SCADA system, a process integration server and/or dynamic field data analyzing computer, and memory/computer readable media storing a dynamic field data analyzing computer program. The computer program can include instructions that when executed cause the dynamic field data analyzing computer to perform various operations to include receiving real-time dynamic field data, analyzing validity of the dynamic field data, validating values of the field data, validating a state/condition of a well, and flagging well components, well conditions, and/or well state validation issues.

  • Patent number: 9228427
Abstract: A well completion method provides for monitoring of reservoir pressure and saturation levels for two reservoirs from a single monitoring well. The well completion extends vertically through an upper and a lower reservoir. The well is cased, cemented, and perforated across the lower reservoir. A cement free zone is formed by cementing the casing string within the wellbore above an external casing packer above the upper reservoir. The casing string is perforated to allow fluid from the upper reservoir to flow through the cement free zone. A tubing string is landed and set within the casing string. The tubing string is sealed above and below the perforation at the cement free zone to prevent communication between fluid from the upper reservoir and the lower reservoir. The upper reservoir is monitored at the cement free zone, and the lower reservoir is monitored below an end of the tubing string.

  • Patent number: 8672034
Abstract: A wellbore system and a method of forming the wellbore system, where the wellbore system is made up of a primary wellbore that is disposed entirely above a producing zone and lateral wellbores that extend from the primary wellbore into the producing zone. By penetrating the producing, or target, zone with the lateral wellbores, fractures in the target zone can be better avoided thereby increasing the potential amount of recoverable hydrocarbon. Optionally, wellbore systems are included that have more than a single primary wellbore. Further disclosed is a method of maximizing wellbore production by selectively blocking designated lateral wellbores in which water or other non-hydrocarbon fluid is detected.
