  • Patent number: 9564963
Abstract: A receiver receives signals and noise over a frequency spectrum of a desired received signal. The desired received signal is spread using code division multiple access. The received signals and noise are demodulated to produce a demodulated signal. The demodulated signal is despread using a code uncorrelated with a code associated with the desired received signal. A power level of the despread demodulated signal is measured as an estimate of the noise level of the frequency spectrum.

  • Publication number: 20150236815
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for implementing space frequency block coding (SFBC) in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication system. The present invention is applicable to both a closed loop mode and an open loop mode. In the closed loop mode, power loading and eigen-beamforming are performed based on channel state information (CSI). A channel coded data stream is multiplexed into two or more data streams. Power loading is performed based on the CSI on each of the multiplexed data streams. SFBC encoding is performed on the data streams for each of the paired subcarriers. Then, eigen-beamforming is performed based on the CSI to distribute eigenbeams to multiple transmit antennas. The power loading may be performed on two or more SFBC encoding blocks or on each eigenmodes. Additionally, the power loading may be performed across subcarriers or subcarrier groups for weak eigenmodes.

  • Patent number: 6944209
Abstract: The present invention is a user equipment (UE), including a receiver and method for receiving one of a plurality of channels in a communication signal. An adaptive matched filter produces a filtered signal by using a weighting signal. A rake receiver produces a filter weighting signal using a pseudo-noise signal generator. A channel despreader despreads the filtered signal using the pseudo-noise signal generated to produce a despread channel signal of the selected channel. A pilot channel despreader despreads the filtered signal using a pseudo-noise signal generator to produce a despread pilot signal of the pilot channel. A hard decision processor receives the despread channel signal of the selected channel and produces a correction signal. A phase-locked loop utilizes at least the despread pilot signal and produces a phase correction signal which is applied to produce phase-corrected channel signals.

  • Publication number: 20040120282
Abstract: A mobile user receiver having a cancellation system for removing selected signals from a traffic signal prior to decoding includes a receiver having a system input for receiving communication signals from a transmitter over an air interface. The system input is supplied to a traffic signal cancellation system for canceling unwanted traffic signals. • Patent number: 6741584
Abstract: A method is disclosed for receiving a transmitted signal in a communication system employing CDMA techniques wherein the transmitted signal includes a plurality of short codes, each of which is transmitted repetitively over a fixed period of time and where the received signal has CW interference in addition to the transmitted signal. The method includes using a Sequential Ratio Probability Test (SPRT) for detecting the presence of the short code in a plurality of time phases of the received signal by calculating a likelihood ratio for each phase. A likelihood ratio is a comparison of the signal's Probability Distribution Function (PDF) with a background noise PDF. The background noise PDF is calculated by combining in the RAKE the current short code with the input signal.

  • Patent number: 6728292
Abstract: A spread spectrum time division duplex user equipment uses frames having time slots for communication. The user equipment receives power commands and a first communication having a transmission power level in a first time slot. A power level of the first communication is measured as received. A pathloss estimate is determined based on in part the measured received first communication power level and the first communication transmission power level. A transmission power level for the second communication in a second time slot form the user equipment is set based on in part the pathloss estimate weighted by a quality factor adjusted by the power command. The quality factor decreases as a number of time slots between the first and second time slots increases.

  • Patent number: 6122511
Abstract: A multicellular communications system where transmission between a roving subscriber and multiple base station transceivers is maintained throughout the territory. Each mobile subscriber unit has global code seeds for the entire communications system or an updated neighbor list and continuously searches to access available cell base stations while maintaining a communication link with one base station. Candidate cell base stations are interrogated and communicated with. The candidate base station that requires less transmitting energy from the mobile subscriber unit is closely monitored. When the mobile subscriber unit can successfully communicate with less transmit power than currently required by the present base station, the mobile subscriber unit is handed off to the candidate base station transceiver.
